ABAS Definitions
ABAS(Aircraft-Based Augmentation System)
An augmentation system that augments and/or integrates the
information obtained from the other GNSS elements with
information available on board the aircraft. (ICAO
Annex10 )
ABAS Functions (ICAO ANEEX10 )
The ABAS function combined with one or more of the other
GNSS elements and both a fault-free GNSS receiver and
fault-free aircraft system used for the ABAS function shall
meet the requirements for accuracy, integrity, continuity
and availability.

ABAS integrity monitoring
a) RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring)
RAIM detects a failure of the GPS satellites by monitoring
only in on-board. The function is classified into FD and FDE.
・FD: Fault Detection
・FDE: Fault Detection and Exclusion
b) AAIM (Aircraft Autonomous Integrity Monitoring)
AAIM uses information form additional on-board sensors.
(Barometric altimeter, INS: Inertial Navigation System)

FD
a) This function determines the presence or absence of a faulty
GPS satellite.
b) If it detects the presence of a positioning failure, it issues an
alarm and the navigation function of the aircraft is stopped.
c) It uses a minimum of five satellites.

FDE
a) This function determines the presence or absence of a faulty
GPS satellite, and excludes it from the navigation solution.
b) If it detects the presence of a positioning failure, it issues an
alarm and the navigation function of the aircraft can continue
without interruption by excluding the faulty satellite.
c) It uses a minimum of six satellites.

GPS RAIM Prediction in Japan
a) Since Sep. 2007, The MSV (MSAS service Volume)System
has been in operational to support GNSS and MSAS
operation in Japan.
b) The MSV predicts RAIM availability and NOTAM
information will be provided if RAIM outage is detected at
Fukuoka FIR.
c) Since Jun 2011, RAIM Prediction has been provided
additional Web site via internet.
