Final Project Report:
Smart Controlled Bridge with Overload
Prevention and Adjustable Height
Abstract— The objective of this project is
to design a smart bridge system that ensures
safety by preventing overload through real-
time weight monitoring. The bridge will use
load sensors to control and access, and
either Stepper motor will lift one side of the
bridge to allow boat passage, enhancing
both safety and functionality with a barrier
at gate entrance.
Keywords— mechanical assembly of bridge, load cell,
HX711 stepper motor, ULN2003 driver, servo motor.
Ultrasonic sensor.
I. INTRODUCTION IV. APPLICATIONS
The deliverables for the Smart Controlled Bridge project
include a functional prototype of the bridge that features The smart controlled bridge project can be used to
overload prevention and height adjustment, integrating improve safety and automation in bridges. It helps prevent
sensors and a servo-controlled gate. The prototype accidents by stopping overloaded vehicles from crossing.
incorporates an HX711 load sensor for weight monitoring The system is useful for drawbridges, as it can open to let

comes. Additionally, a toll-style gate is operated by a servo bridges, reducing the need for manual work. This project
motor to restrict entry based on load conditions. The makes bridges safer and easier to use in daily operations.
project also includes fully developed and tested ESP32
code for managing sensors, gate operation, and height
adjustments based on detecting boats using ultrasonic

VII. CONCLUSION
The smart controlled bridge system provides an efficient
solution for managing vehicle and boat traffic on
bridges. By integrating an ultrasonic sensor for entry
detection and an HX711 load sensor for weight
monitoring, the system can prevent overloads by
restricting vehicle access based on weight limits. This
system enhances bridge safety and efficiency by
reducing manual intervention and enabling real-time
responses to traffic [Link] project demonstrates
the effective use of automation and sensor integration to
improve bridge operation and safety.
