Wind Load Calculation for PEB Design

This document provides training material on wind load calculation for pre-engineered buildings, detailing the dimensions and wind speed parameters for a specific building in Hyderabad. It outlines the calculation of design wind speed and pressure, as well as the total surface area and percentage of openings in the building. The internal pressure coefficient is also determined based on the calculated values.

Width =20M, Length = 70M ( 10@ 7M bay spacing) , Height = 8M
Basic wind speed = 44M/Sec (Hyderabad)
Design wind speed (Vz) = Vb K1 K2 K3 K4
K1 = 1 (probability factor )

K2 = 0.91 (terrain category )

K3 = 1 (topography)

K4 = 1 (non cyclone zone i.e. Hyderabad)

Design wind speed(Vz) = Vb K1 K2 K3 K4

= 44 x 1 x 0.91 x 1 x1
= 40.04 M/sec

Pz = wind pressure at height z

Pz = 0.60 Vz2 = 0.60 x 40.042 = 0.962 kN/M2
Pd = The design wind pressure can obtained as
Pd = Kd Ka Kc Pz

Note : The value of Pd shall not be taken as less than 0.70Pz

Width = 20M , Length = 70M , Height = 8M
Door : 4 x 3 - 2Nos.
Window: 1.20 x 1.5 - 6Nos.
Building surface area : 2H ( L + W) = 2 x 8 ( 70 + 20 ) = 1440M2
Triangle portion of end wall : ½ x h x w/2 x 4 = ½ x 1 x 10 x 4 = 20M2
Total surface area = 1440 + 20 = 1460M2
Opening area = 4 x 3 x 2 + 1.20 x 1.50 x 6 = 34.80M2
Percentage of opening = (34.8 / 1460) x 100 = 2.38 %
Hence internal pressure coefficient = +/- 0.20
