uphill)

The main function of the cruise control is to control the vehicle speed according to a speed set by the
driver. The target speed can be defined either using the current speed or predefined values. In order
to control the vehicle speed, the cruise control uses the engine drive torque and, when needed, the
retardation torque provided by auxiliary brakes (e.g. driving downhill).
When driving downhill with the cruise control brake enabled, the set speed will automatically be

increased by an over-speed. The Auxiliary Brakes are used not to exceed this over-speed.
The cruise control is automatically disabled when either the clutch pedal is depressed or when the
control for retarder/auxiliary brake is moved to a manual braking position.
Using the brake pedal temporarily disengages the cruise control when vehicle speed has decreased
to 2 km/h (1.24 mph) below the set speed.
The cruise control can be completely turned off with the off button.

Cruise control activation, scenario

Step 1-10 are activation conditions to this scenario, all conditions must be met to activate the cruise
control.

Parameters
● CC Set Speed – Cruise control target speed, achieved by using the engine positive torque.

● CCB Set Speed – Cruise control brake target speed, achieved by using the auxiliary brakes in
downhill.

● CCB Overspeed – Current value of the difference between CCB set speed and CC set speed.

● Default CCB Overspeed – Default value of CCB Overspeed, used to initialize the CCB set speed
and re-initialize it at the end of each downhill. When EcoCruise is installed, the default CCB
overspeed depends on the EcoCruise level.

Extensions of the cruise control

EcoCruise
The driver selects the desired EcoCruise level. Each EcoCruise level determines a different setting of
the cruise control and associated fuel economy. A higher EcoCruise level means lower fuel
consumption and a larger vehicle speed window.
Cruise control soft
Cruise control soft is a smooth cruise control which is developed to save fuel for long haul
applications. It automatically reduces the speed in high engine load conditions (i.e. in uphill), when
driving on the top gear with engine speed above a threshold. When these conditions are not met, the
cruise control soft operates as a standard cruise control. The speed drop is at the max 3 km/h.
Permanently RSL (Road Speed Limiter)
The permanently RSL permanently limits the vehicle speed to a predefined maximum legal speed.
Permanently RSL is set defined for each customer/market.
Temporary RSL
The temporary RSL helps the driver keeping a lower velocity i.e. when entering a low speed area.
When activated, the current vehicle speed is used as the vehicle speed limit. The function limits the
engine torque request from the accelerator pedal, making sure the set speed limit is not exceeded.

3 VMCU (A187) activates temporary RSL and returns the status active to CIOM (A160).

4 CIOM (A160) lights up the active function indication light on the TRSL switch.

5 VMCU (A187) sends the temporary RSL target speed to ECM (A14).

6 ECM (A14) sets the temporaryRSL control mode to active and informs VMCU (A187) and
HMIIOM (A161).

7 HMIIOM (A161) requests Instrument (A03) to light the temporary RSL icon in the central
display.
