Format
A double-spaced Microsoft Word document, done individually. You do not need a title page. Be
sure to number your answers and to respond to each prompt separately. Write in Times New
Roman 12-point font.
Purpose
Reflection is an important part of the learning process. Your efforts, actions and patterns are what
control your learning experience. Reflecting on what you have done and how you have retained
content contributes to personal growth and future success inside and outside the classroom.
Instructions
Please answer the given questions in full sentences. If a question asks you to explain, you need to
elaborate on your answer with a few sentences (at the minimum). Please read the questions
carefully and respond to every aspect of them.
Grading (20 points)
Unlike previous assignments, you will be graded on your answers overall, not question by
question. A successful reflection will show plenty of meaningful thought, explanation as well as
clear communication. Additionally, technical communication conventions should be upheld and
will be factored into the language criteria grade. Please consult with the rubric on the next page
for more specific information
As usual, breaches in academic integrity will result in a grade of zero for the entire assignment. If

Questions to Answer:
1. What did you find most interesting in this course. Be specific, referencing specific
details. Explain why you felt this way.
I think the most interesting in this class is that I can emerged myself in real English,
get more knowledge about literature in English especially technical aspect. Moreover,
it is also a wonderful way for me to enhance my English skill. Beside, we had a
caring and passionate teacher to be honest.
2. What did you find the most challenging in this course? Be specific. Explain why
you felt this way.
From my perspective, I think ESOL is an exciting course and really necessary for
academic path and career as well. For me, actually, English is not my first language that
why I need to take this course and the thing I found most challenging was expressing
myself and my ideas in English using the technical format. Sometimes, I do not have
enough technical word to show my thinking in assignment as well as exercise in class
that was the most difficult for me
3. What skills would you like to have spent more time learning and developing in ESOL
120? Be specific. Explain why you would like to learn more in these areas?
-There are variety skills that I absorbed from this course ESOL 120 but the thing that i
think i need to spend more time on is citation because of citation in Canada is a very
important aspect and there are many common errors for example: fear of plagiarism, do
not know when to cite and which is the right citation format… therefore i want to allocate
more time in this field to become more proficient.
4. We have worked on some grammatical material this term. What is a specific
grammar point that you feel you should further develop? Why?
One grammar point I want to work on more is reported speech. Sometimes I’m not sure how
to change the verbs or pronouns when I report what someone said. This can make my
sentences unclear or grammatically wrong. If I improve my reported speech, I’ll be able to
write better in conversations, stories, or summaries.
5. One skill you developed in this course was paraphrasing. Why is this skill
important? Give one specific example of a time in your life (in other courses, at a
future job, as a member of society, with family/friends, etc.) when you might need to
paraphrase information. Explain the context.
-Undoubtedly, I found paraphrasing skill is the important skill because of several reasons.
Firstly, to be honest, English is not my mother tongue thanks for paraphrasing which
improved my communication, being able to rephrase information allows me to tailor my
message for different audiences and making complex ideas simpler or adapting to various
tones and styles. Secondly, paraphrasing skill plays a crucial role in supporting my
writing and speaking skill, paraphrasing helps me use information from other sources in
your own work more easily, making your writing or speaking clearer and easier to
understand.
- for example, when I want to express a complicated problem about religion in my
country for my foreign friend I can paraphrase all the confusing words to the easier ones

6. Comment on how sufficiently you feel you understand the use of APA. Are
there particular aspects of its use that you would like to further understand?
I consider myself quite understand the use of APA but not all of it. There are several
things I don’t know completely and want to get further information are when we
need to cite and which format of citation we can use in each situation.
7. In class, we have addressed mechanism descriptions and process descriptions. Why
are these skills important? Give one specific example of a time in your life (in other
courses, at a future job, as a member of society, with family/friends, etc.) when you
might need to write a description OR write a process. Explain the context.
-A mechanism description explains how something works—usually a tool, machine, or system. It
focuses on parts, structure, and function. It is very important because it provides the readers clear
understanding of function, easy to maintain and repair, do wonder for designing and innovation.
- A process description explains how something happens or is done, usually over time. It focuses
on steps, sequences, and transformation. It is crucial in training and instruction, helping human
control quality and understanding systems
-For example, in real life, I make the mechanism description to figure out all the parts of a coffee
brew machine to repair this machine.
8. In class, we have discussed synthesis. What are some challenges you feel you might
have with this process?
-Synthesis—combining ideas from multiple sources to form a cohesive whole—is a key
skill in writing, research, and critical thinking. Besides, it also includes a lot of mistakes
and challenges, for example: not understanding the sources deeply(hard to combine
ideas), just summarizing instead of connecting( list all the data from each source
separately without the connection), time consuming(synthesis takes time-reading,
finding, comparing, analyzing).
9. Think about your efforts in this course throughout the semester. Do you feel like you
put forth your best efforts this semester? Explain what you did OR explain what may
have prevented you from putting forth your best efforts. Will you change anything
for ESOL 220? Include a reference to your attendance this semester, as well as how
regularly you read course material and completed activities prior to classes.
-Actually, I tried hard in this course and put almost my efforts this semester but to be
honest, I think I could have tried harder. Sometimes, I got lazy to prepare and complete
activities prior to classes and my writing skill not pretty good so that why I often get the
average grade not too good not too bad. I think in ESOL 220 I will become more hard-
working, prepare all the material to get more knowledge before the class
- this is my average attendance marked by instructor. I show up everyday.

-To be honest, I often read class materials before class but rarely prepare, write down or
complete activities prior the class but for me, I still can pretty understand the thing that
happen in the class and use it to finish the homework after that. Maybe, if I prepared
before class, I would understand more clearly in the class, I’m trying to do that in next
course ESOL 220
