APEDA
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)
was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food
Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December,
1985. The Act (2 of 1986) came into effect from 13th February, 1986 by a notification
issued in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary: Part-II [Sec. 3(ii): 13.2.1986). The Authority
replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).
FUNCTIONS OF APEDA
• In accordance with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export
Development Authority Act, 1985, (2 of 1986) the following functions have been
assigned to the Authority.
• Development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export by way of
providing financial assistance or otherwise for undertaking surveys and feasibility
studies, participation in enquiry capital through joint ventures and other reliefs and
subsidy schemes;
• Registration of persons as exporters of the scheduled products on payment of such
fees as may be prescribed;
• Fixing of standards and specifications for the scheduled products for the purpose of
exports;
• Carrying out inspection of meat and meat products in slaughter houses, processing
plants, storage premises, conveyances or other places where such products are kept
or handled for the purpose of ensuring the quality of such products;
APEDA
• Improving of packaging of the Scheduled products;
• Improving of marketing of the Scheduled products outside India;
• Promotion of export oriented production and development of the
Scheduled products;
• Collection of statistics from the owners of factories or
establishments engaged in the production, processing, packaging,
marketing or export of the scheduled products or from such other
persons as may be prescribed on any matter relating to the
scheduled products and publication of the statistics so collected or
of any portions thereof or extracts there from;
• Training in various aspects of the industries connected with the
scheduled products;
• Such other matters as may be prescribed.
MPEDA
The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA)
was set up by an act of Parliament during 1972. The erstwhile
Marine Products Export Promotion Council established by the
Government of India in September, 1961 was converged into
MPEDA on 24th August, 1972. The Marine Products Export
Development Authority under the Ministry of Commerce and
Industry is a statutory body entrusted with the primary task of
promotion of export of marine products. The Authority with its
headquarters at Kochi, Kerala.
MPEDA
Functions:
a) developing and regulating off-shore and deep-sea fishing and undertaking measures
for the conservation and management of off-shore and deep-sea fisheries;
b) registering fishing vessels, processing plants or storage premises for marine products

c) fixing of standards and specifications for marine products for purposes of export;
d) rendering of financial or other assistance to owners of fishing vessels engaged in
off-shore and deep-sea fishing and owners of processing plants or storage premises for
marine products and conveyances used for the transport of marine products

e) carrying out inspection of marine products in any fishing vessel, processing plant,
storage premises, conveyance or other places where such products are kept or handled
f) regulating the export of marine products;
MPEDA

g) improving the marketing of marine products outside India;

h) registering of exporters of marine products on payment of such fees as may be


prescribed

i) collecting statistics from persons engaged in the catching of fish or other marine
products, owners of processing plants or storage premises for marine products, or
conveyances used for the transport of marine products

j) training in various aspects of the marine products industry


Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO)
Apex body of the Government recognised Export Promotion Councils,
Commodity Boards and Export Development Authorities in India. Set up in
1965 by Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to focus the efforts of
all stakeholders engaged in promotion of trade from the country. Provides
the crucial interface between International Trading community of India with
the Central and State Governments, Financial Institutions, Ports, Railways,
Surface Transport and all engaged in Export Trade Facilitation. It has
developed and maintains the Indian Trade Portal –
[Link] on behalf of the Department of Commerce,
Government of India, providing key information about the MFN or
Preferential tariff, Rules of origin to avail preferential tariff, tariff measures
mapped at tariff lines of 98 countries, Trade Analysis of 116 countries,
item-wise export and import policy of the Government of India, Duty
drawback, Interest Equalization rates, GST and other levies are all available
in one page. Publishes FIEO News - monthly bulletin, with worldwide
readership amongst exporters and importers, chambers of commerce and
industry, commercial and economic agencies, policy makers, mission in India
and abroad. Publishes weekly e-bulletin – INTRADE Update, giving latest
information on WTO, Banking, Taxation, Policy etc.

Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP)
The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is a national apex body which was set up in
1966 by the packaging and allied industries and the Ministry of Commerce,
Government of India, with the specific objective of improving the packaging
standards in the country. The Institute is an autonomous body working under the
administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce.
