challenges affect their academic performance and mental health. By understanding the relationship
between financial stress and student outcomes, this research seeks to inform policies and support
services that promote academic success and overall well-being.

Brief Review of Relevant Literature

Previous studies have shown that financial stress can lead to decreased academic performance,
increased dropout rates, and various mental health issues, including anxiety and depression (Roberts et
al., 2018; Joo et al., 2019). Research indicates that students experiencing financial difficulties often
report lower levels of academic engagement and motivation (Miller & Rudd, 2020). Additionally, the
relationship between financial stress and mental health has been well-documented, with many students
citing financial concerns as a primary source of stress (Eisenberg et al., 2009). However, there is a gap in
the literature regarding the specific experiences of students at community colleges, particularly in the
context of the Philippines.

Methodology

This study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research
methods. A survey will be administered to a stratified random sample of students at Daraga Community
College to collect data on financial problems, academic performance, and mental health indicators. The
quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical methods to identify correlations and trends.
Additionally, in-depth interviews will be conducted with a purposive sample of students who report
significant financial stress to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences. Ethical considerations,
including informed consent and confidentiality, will be prioritized throughout the research process.
