Control Chart Analysis for Coil Resistance

The document outlines a control chart analysis for a coil manufacturing process, focusing on resistance values measured from samples. It includes steps for calculating average resistance (𝑋̄) and range (𝑅) for each sample, as well as determining control limits for both the R-chart and X̄-chart. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of identifying and eliminating special causes before utilizing the charts for process control.

Control chart for variables

Consider a coil manufacturing process in which the quality characteristic of the coil is the resistance
value (in ohms). Random samples of size 5 are selected and the resistances are measured and listed in
the table below.

1. Complete the table by filling in the 𝑋" and 𝑅 values for each sample. Calculate also the 𝑋" and 𝑅" of
the control chart.

19. Plot the 𝑋" and 𝑅 charts. Draw the CL, UCL and LCL in the charts.

Note: The special causes must be identified and eliminated before the 𝑋"-chart and the R-chart can be
used for the process control.
