Title of the Project Szlachetna Paczka
My role in this Project Graphic designer, advertiser
1. Goal of this Project:
When deciding what kind of CAS project to do I knew I wanted to get involved with the local
community. Our team had quite a lot of ideas, but we all kept the same goal in mind. Szlachetna
Paczka's mission is to offer personalized aid to families in difficult situations. They are one of the
biggest and most recognizable social schemes in Poland. They offer material as well as mental support
to people in need. Donors who join this event donate to a family in the form of a Christmas gift. The
goal of this project was to help our assigned family.
2. Brief description of this Project
My team and I organized a charity item collection at our school. When choosing which family to help
we decided our priority is bigger families. All parents deserve help to provide a good life for their
children. The family we ended up picking was a single mother - Małgorzata and her three children -
Adam, Karolina, and Krzyś. Among the material items they requested, the mother also wanted a floristry
course to pursue her dream career.
Advertising was a crucial step in this project because we needed students as well as staff to engage in
the charity collection. I was responsible for creating posters to promote the event and inform on what
type of items the family requires. Additionally, we organized bake sales and fundraisers as a way to
collect money for a floristry course for Małgorzata.
3. For each Learning Outcome checked, explain specifically how your project allowed you to meet this goal:
Increasing your awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
I was able to use my artistic skills to promote this project and help it reach more potential donors by
designing multiple posters. This made me realize how diverse such an ability is and that there are so
many ways I can use it to help in important initiatives.
Undertaking new challenges
This was not the first time I took part in a social project however the goal was much different this time. I
think the most stressful part of this project was working under time constraints. Since we worked on
behalf of a big charity we had to stick to the deadlines they set. This means that we had to make sure
that we collected all the items by that time.
Planning and initiating activities
This charity takes place at our school every year and as a group, we decided that it was the kind of
project we want to get involved in. We wanted to keep this school tradition going and do something kind
for the community. I think that for me the biggest incentive to carry out this project was that I admire the
amount of work that Szlachetna Paczka does for so many people each year. Seeing how everything
works from the inside gave me a whole new perspective on the extent of work that volunteers complete
when collaborating with so many people.
Working collaboratively with others
I worked in a group of six during this project so we needed to have good collaborative skills to allow us
to carry out this project successfully. We tried to communicate effectively with each other and hold
brainstorms to make sure that everybody was able to share their ideas freely.
Showing perseverance and commitment in your activities
This project was carried out in the span of a month. There were many times we were afraid of how much
time there is left until our deadline – the gifting day. We never gave up though and persisted to the best
of our abilities until the end.
Engaging with issues of global importance
Poverty is a major issue in numerous countries around the globe, including Poland. Many people are
living below the line and these numbers are only increasing in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Participating in charities such as Szlachetna Paczka is a viable way of easing their hardships and
reminding them that they are not alone. There are many demographics which this charity provides care
for including larger families, elderly and disabled people or single parents.
Considering the ethical implications of your actions
Szlachetna Paczka is a social scheme that focuses on helping people in need. The care they provide is
thoughtful. What sets them aside from other charities is that they focus on providing help that ensures
the family gets out of their situation and has a way to change it in the long term. I think it’s easy to
donate a generic item, but this organization takes the time to listen to the specific needs of each family.
Developing new skills
During this project, I was forced to step out of my comfort zone many times. A lot of the project
consisted of promoting the event to other students which felt very daunting as I’m not very good with
social interactions. I think the campaign was effective though because many people decided to support
the project.
4. What was the outcome of the activity? Did you accomplish your goals?
In the end, we managed to fill about 20 packages. It made me think of exactly how many people were
brought together to help people in need. It was incredible to see all the donations in one place once they
were put under a Christmas tree in the school. Every item in the boxes represented someone from my
school that had the motivation to help others. We managed to get all the items the family requested.
Additionally, the fundraiser ended up being a major success and we collected more than enough money.
We decided to use the rest of the funds to get the family some of the more expensive items they
requested like shoes and winter coats. I think we were successful in fulfilling our goals. Even though I
haven’t had the chance to meet the family in person I hope we manage to make their Christmas brighter.
5. What would you do differently if you did this activity again?
There were many things I could’ve done better during this project. I feel like we didn’t have a lot of
structure within our group. There wasn’t anyone who was keeping track of the donated items which was
very important. It was very nerve-wracking to not be certain until the last days if we managed to collect
all the items We also should have started promoting the project earlier to give students more time to
donate. If I were to do this project again I think we should have put more effort into organizing our
group. We failed to assign clear roles to every member and the team suffered later on because of it. It’s a
learning experience but I’m still happy about the results we’ve gotten.
6. Describe how this activity represents Creativity, Action, and/or Service.
This activity represents Service because the focus and goal of this project was to help a family in need.
By organizing an item donation at our school and holding multiple bake sales we collected all the items
they listed. This was done on behalf of the Szlachetna Paczka charity.
This activity also represents Creativity because I was able to apply my creative abilities to design several
posters to promote the event.
