#There are plans to upgrade and renovate certain student halls. The rates for these
specific halls will no longer be applicable once these particular halls undergo
upgrading and renovations.

Important Notes

Daily rate applies if the resident does not stay for the full calendar month of
check-in or check-out.
Daily rate is the pro-rate of monthly rental fee according to the calendar
days of the month of check-in or check-out. Daily rate is computed from the
day of key collection (date inclusive) to the last day of the calendar month of
check-in, or from the first day of the calendar month of check-out to the day
of key return (date inclusive) plus the minimum 14 days withdrawal notice
period (if applicable).

Residents are required to submit a withdrawal request via OneStop@SAC
(for undergraduate students) or Online Vacate Notice (for graduate
students) providing at least 14 days advance notice of their intended check-
out date. Should there be insufficient notice, or no notice provided by the
vacating resident, the accommodation charges for the minimum withdrawal
notice period shall apply.
Residents who do not vacate at the end of the lease or stay beyond the
intended check-out date as submitted in their withdrawal request, and/or
who do not return all key(s) and NTU property shall be deemed to have
overstayed (refer to Housing Agreement). Overstay fee, charged at double
of the daily rate, shall apply on a daily basis, until the resident completely
vacates the room and returns all key(s) and/or NTU property.

Applicable from AY2024-25 onwards

The period of hall stay is either for one semester or a full academic year, as
indicated in students’ hall application.
Senior1 students who withdraw from hall before the end of each
semester/academic year will not receive a refund of their hall fees (unless
approved by OCH due to extenuating circumstances or valid reasons).
Freshmen2 who need to withdraw from hall before the end of the
semester/academic year, are required to submit a withdrawal notice at least
14 days in advance, to receive a refund.
Rental rates shall be prorated accordingly during students’ check-in and
check-out months.
If you wish to stay in hall during the vacation period (May - July), you will
need to submit a separate application. Please look out for the application
notice in March/April.
Hall fees are periodically reviewed to ensure that they reflect inflation and
the costs of operating and maintaining the halls, and to support the
continued quality of accommodation.

1Senior students refer to students who are in their second year of study and
above, even if they have not stayed in halls before.
2Freshmen refer to new students in their first year of study or direct entry in
year 2.

 Revision of Hall-related fees for AY2024/25
(Undergraduate Students)

Hall Rental Fees

1. Hall rental rates were revised in the past two years. Why are they being
increased further?
As NTU continues to work towards maintaining a high standard of campus
housing, like all organisations around the world, we face challenges. In the
University’s context, some of our top challenges in managing student
housing include the increasing operating costs of the halls of residence and
higher electricity tariffs.

NTU’s hall fees will therefore be progressively increased from AY2024 to

AY2026. The annual increase in monthly fees will be capped at a maximum
of $50.

2. Are there any financial aid options for students to defray housing costs?
Eligible students who face financial difficulties in paying for the fee increase
may apply for assistance under the NTU Priorities Fund. If you are facing
financial challenges, please speak with your School’s Associate Chair

(Students). Alternatively, you may write to OCH via Ask Campus Housing.

Payment of Hall Fees

1. Why must senior Hall residents commit to stay for the full semester?
To optimise student housing and ensure that hall places go to those with
genuine housing needs, senior Hall residents who apply for hall stay from
AY2024 onwards must commit to a full semester stay.

Please find an overview of the hall application process below:

2. Why are only senior Hall residents required to stay for the full semester?
Senior Hall residents have experienced campus living and should consider
their accommodation needs carefully before applying for a hall room. The
commitment to stay for a full semester does not apply to those who are new

to the University and have not yet experienced campus living.

3. Can senior Hall residents withdraw from Hall after their exam ends and
will there be a refund?
Students, who would like to move out from their halls early due to the end of
their semester exams, would be allowed a refund of the remaining period
after their final examination date. They will have to provide 14-day advance
notice, furnished with proof of their final examination date.

Withdrawal requests can be submitted via Ask Campus Housing.

4. What can Hall residents do if they decide not to continue staying in

Semester 2 even though they have applied for a full Academic Year?
If you applied to stay the full Academic Year but do not wish to continue your
hall stay in Semester 2 due to extenuating or other circumstances, you may
submit a withdrawal request to OCH in October – November (please look
out for the circular announcing this). Once your withdrawal request has been
approved by OCH, you will not need to pay the hall fees for Semester 2.

However, if you submit your withdrawal request after 15 November, you will
still be charged the hall fees for Semester 2. This is to optimise student
housing and ensure that hall places go to those with genuine housing needs.

Revision of Hall Aircon and Hall Application Fees

1. Why are the hall aircon rates being adjusted?

One of the University’s top challenges in managing student housing is the
increasing electricity tariffs. The Hall aircon pay-per-use rate will therefore
be adjusted from $0.30 to $0.39 per hour.

2. Will the hall aircon rates go up next year?

The hall aircon rates will be reviewed periodically. Students will be informed
of any fee adjustments in advance, so that they can plan their finances.

3. Some students have faced problems with the Hall Aircon app. What is
NTU doing to resolve them?
OCH has been working closely with the vendor, Daikin, to troubleshoot
issues with the Hall Aircon app. Daikin has been striving to improve the
reliability of the system network connectivity.

Students who face any issues with their Hall Aircon app are advised to

submit a ticket via ServiceNow. For issues with the physical aircon unit,
