Project Guidelines for IT Students
Project Guidelines for IT Students
It is mandatory that the contents of the project must not be copied from any website to ensure academic integrity and originality in the student's work. Failure to adhere to this guideline could lead to allegations of plagiarism, which can have serious academic consequences, such as invalidation of the project, disciplinary actions, or a negative impact on the student's academic record. This also ensures that students actively engage in learning and developing their skills rather than relying on external information without due understanding .
To ensure originality of the project content and format, the guidelines recommend that the contents of the synopsis and final project must not be copied from any website, thus implying that all work should be authentically developed by the student. Additionally, the documentation should be well-formatted and adhere to specific typing and structural requirements, thereby promoting methodological rigor and intellectual honesty in the development and presentation of the project .
The use of diagrams in project system design facilitates a comprehensive understanding and enhancement of project implementation by providing structured visualization of complex information. Data Flow Diagrams, for instance, elucidate the pathways of information exchange. Entity-Relationship Diagrams clarify data interdependencies. Object and Class Diagrams represent object-oriented structures. Gantt and Pert Charts enable project scheduling and management. Activity and Collaboration diagrams illustrate sequences of operations and object interactions. Collectively, these diagrams help in identifying potential design flaws, optimizing workflows, and ensuring that all project components work harmoniously to meet defined objectives .
Conducting a SWOT analysis in the project's final documentation is significant as it helps identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the project. This strategic tool aids in understanding the internal and external factors that can impact the project's success. By analyzing these elements, students can better strategize to leverage strengths, address weaknesses, capitalize on opportunities, and mitigate potential threats, thereby improving the project's viability and effectiveness .
The project synopsis requires various diagrams such as the Data Flow Diagram, Entity-Relationship Diagram, Object Diagram, Class Diagram, Gantt and Pert Chart, Activity diagram, and Collaboration diagram. These diagrams are crucial for system design because they provide a visual representation of the system's components and their interactions. The Data Flow Diagram helps in understanding the flow of information within the system. Entity-Relationship Diagrams are used to depict the relationships between different data entities, while Class and Object Diagrams show the system's object-oriented structure. Gantt and Pert Charts are used for project scheduling and tracking progress. Activity and Collaboration diagrams illustrate the dynamic aspects of the system, showing the sequence of actions and how objects interact .
Presenting both a synopsis and a PowerPoint presentation during the project evaluation is necessary to provide a holistic view of the project. The synopsis offers a detailed written summary that explains the project’s objectives, design, implementation, and future scope, thus serving as a comprehensive reference for evaluators. The PowerPoint presentation complements this by allowing students to succinctly and dynamically articulate key aspects of their project in a visual and engaging format, facilitating better interaction and understanding during the evaluation process .
Faculty members serve as internal guides for each student, providing critical mentorship and support throughout the project's development. This role is important because faculty guides help ensure that students stay on track, offer expert advice and feedback on technical and design aspects, and facilitate a deeper understanding of the academic material. Their guidance also enhances the quality of the project by fostering academic rigor and helping students address complex challenges effectively .
The final project hardcopy must include a front page, Certificate of Authenticity, Certificate of Internship, Declaration, Acknowledgement, Table of content/index, and specific sections like Introduction, Vision, Mission, Objective, SWOT analysis, Chronology of Achievements, Topic discussion, Platform used, Module of the project, Project Type, System Design diagrams, Relevance and implication in the company, Findings, Conclusion, Limitation of the project, Further Enhancement, and Bibliography. These elements collectively ensure thorough documentation, showcase the student's ability to follow structured guidelines, and provide comprehensive information for evaluators to assess the scope, execution, and educational value of the project .
The system design portion of both the project synopsis and the final project includes several components: Data Flow Diagram, Entity-Relationship Diagram, Object Diagram, Class Diagram, Gantt and Pert Chart, Activity diagram, and Collaboration diagram. These components are vital for a detailed representation and analysis of the system’s architecture, relationships between data entities, object orientations, project timelines, dynamic processes, and collaborative interactions within the system .
The final project documentation should be well-formatted and typed on A4 size paper in Font Times New Roman (Size 12) with the following margins: Left 1.5”, Right: 1”, Top: 1”, Bottom: 1”. It should be arranged into suitable sections, such as Introduction, Problem Definition, Computational/Design, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Future Scope of Work, References, and Appendix, if any. The project must be hard cover bound .
