established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in
the year 2015. It is administered under the
governance of Shri Yogi Adityanath, our Hon’ble
Chief Minister with the facilitation of Smt.
Anandiben Mafatbhai Patel (Hon'ble Chancellor &
H.E. Governor of U.P.). An AICTE approved
Government Engineering College affiliated to AKTU
Lucknow, the Institution provides a healthy and
zestful environment with the cognizance of three core branches; Computer
Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering.

Administration
Prof. Geetam Singh Tomar is the director of Rajkiya Engineering College,
Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh. Prof Tomar received UG, PG and Ph.D. degrees in
Electronics engineering from Institute of Engineers Calcutta, REC Allahabad and
State Technology University Bhopal respectively and post-Doctoral Fellowship
from University of Kent, U.K. in Computer Engineering. Prior to joining this
institute, he has served as the Director of Birla Institute Bhimtal, THDC IHET Tehri
(Govt of Uttarakhand Institute), Director of SRCEM, VITM and MITM Gwalior and
as faculty in University of Kent and University of West Indies. Apart from this, he
served for 17 years in Indian Air Force before joining academics in year 2001.
There are 7 patents, 12 books, 10 book chapters and over 200 research papers
published under his name. He is serving as the director of the college since 2021.

This institute provides academic program of undergraduate (Bachelor of
Technology) under three discipline - Computer Science and Engineering,
Electronics Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering
Dr. Amod Kumar Tiwari
(Associate Professor and Head)
The department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in year
2015. The department facilitates teaching, research activities, and exposure to
modern-day technologies like IoT, AI and Data Science.
Dr. Amod Kumar Tiwari is the Head of Department with ample teaching and
research experience at IIT Kanpur with more than 60 publications. Dr. Tiwari has
received his Ph.D. from AKTU.
Computer Science Engineering (CSE) department encompasses a variety of
topics that relates to computation, like analysis of algorithms, programming
languages, program design, software, and computer hardware.
Computer Science engineering has roots in electrical engineering, mathematics,
and linguistics. In recent decades, Computer Science has emerged as one of the
most prominent fields in Engineering, providing maximum job opportunities.

Dr. Raj Kumar Patel
(Associate Professor)
The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 2016.
Dr. Raj Kumar Patel, head of the department, leads with ample teaching and
research experience of 10 years. He obtained his M. Tech from NIT Hamirpur
(H.P.) in Condition Monitoring Control and Protection of Electrical Apparatus
and received Director’s medal for M. Tech degree in year 2013. Dr. Patel
received his Ph. D degree from AKTU, Lucknow in Electrical Engineering.
The department has a strength of five dedicated members holding Masters and
Doctorate degrees from reputed institutions including IITs and NITs. Faculty
members are actively engaged in research activities and over all development
with modern laboratories like:

Electrical Engineering is spread across a range of specialties such as Acoustics,

Dr. Himanshu Katiyar
(Associate Professor)
The Electronics Engineering Department was established in the year 2016. This
discipline is associated with utilization of nonlinear and active electrical
components to design the electronics circuit, devices, ICs and their systems.
Dr. Himanshu Katiyar is the head of Department, having excellent record of
teaching and research experience. Dr. Katiyar received his B.E. degree in
Electronics and Communication Engineering from M.I.T. Moradabad, MTech.
degree from Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College, Gorakhpur and Ph.D.
degree in the area of Wireless communication at the IIT, Guwahati, Assam.
The department facilitates students with well- equipped workshops/labs:

Dr. Bhavana Arora is the Head of the Department with teaching experience of
10 years. Dr. Arora received her Alma Mater (Ph.D.) from Dr. RML Awadh
University in field of English Literature.
The department of Applied Science aims to provide high quality teaching of basic
science subjects to engineering students. The department possesses highly-
qualified and motivated young faculty members with research experience.
The purpose of Applied Science is to strengthen the foundation in Mathematics,
Physics, Chemistry and Communication skills so that they can excel with
versatility.

To keep up with the rapid pace of technology, REC Sonbhadra hosts various
Faculty development Program (FDPs) and international conferences conducted
by AICTE every year for students as well as the faculty.
Student-faculty Seminars are conducted by the college frequently giving
exposure of bright minds of world to the students. College collaborates with
different institutions in order to provide various conferences and seminars
which are one of the most awaited academic programs.
Honours Degree
AKTU awards [Link]. Honours degree to the students with consistent
performances throughout the curriculum. Following is the eligibility criteria for
the above:
1) One should pass with at least 75% aggregate marks at the end of final year.
2) Each semester must be passed with no Carry-Overs.
3) Minimum 20 credit points gained from Swayam (MOOC) courses.

year from academic session 2021-22 onwards.

Rajkiya Engineering College Sonbhadra established in the year 2015, is situated

Udbhav
Udbhav, the annual cultural festival of REC Sonbhadra, is two-day fest, providing
unique opportunity to the youth for showcasing their talents. The whole event
is completely organized and executed by the student community of institute.
Unmesh

Unmesh, official Freshers Party, is welcome party given to freshmen organised
annually with rejoice, enthusiasm and the name is apt for the event.
Anveshana
Anveshana, a cultural event is organised on the eve of National Engineer’s Day
(15th September). This event comprises of all the cultural activities like dance,
drama, musical night, games, etc.
Sports, Games and Cultural Activities (SGCA)
The SGCA is an official committee to promote all student activities in the
Institute headed by the faculty members. The committee aims at developing
eloquence of the students from cultural to sports, encouraging individual’s
wholesome personality development.

The aim of technical fest is to harbour practical approach of knowledge-based

technical level. REC, Sonbhadra hosts different technical fest under department

Robotics Club
With the advancement of today’s technology towards automation, we have
here Robotics club focused on developing skills in students and providing
resources to implement their innovative ideas ultimately developing robots. The
club offers indispensable guidance, workshops and tutorials along with tools,
equipment, components and workspace.

Institute Policy on Ragging
AIM
To root in all its forms from college, preventing its occurrence by following
provision of rules and regulations and punishing those who indulge in
disciplinary activities such as in ragging with provided regulations and
appropriate laws in force.

Institute has a policy against sexual harassment and founded a cell of female
faculty to handle such heinous activity and is committed to provide an

Anti-Ragging Cell:
The Cell has taken strict initiatives to prevent ragging in the institute and the
campus. The college strictly follows the norms of anti-ragging issued by the
university and the under graduate commission. Anti-ragging committee is
formed to prevent ragging and to create a harmonic environment in the
premises of the college.
In pursuance to UGC Regulations on “Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher
Educational Institutions, 2009” communicated by MHRD, the following bodies

Student Counselling Cell
In order to resolve day to day academic problems of the students, mentors are
appointed for a batch of 20 students, and they will counsel the respective
students once in a week, to solve the problems come across during their
course of study. This is a continuous process till the end of academic career of

Career Guidance Cell
Career Guidance Cell functions in our institution with the objectives to provide
learning/training opportunities in the areas of academic, career and personal/
Social development and to preparing students to meet future challenges.
Following are the objectives of the career guidance cell:
• The Cell organizes the programs to create awareness about the
importance of higher studies in India and Abroad.

All departments have set a student grievance cell to timely redress grievance
and concerns by the students as and when they arise. The cell encourages the
students to express their problems/grievances frankly and freely without any
feeling of being victimized.
The Grievance Redressal Cell is constituted for the redressal of the problems
reported by the learners of the College with the aim and objective of keeping
the self-esteem of the College by ensuring strive free atmosphere in the college
through encouraging cordial Student-teacher relationship and Student-Student
relationship etc.
Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell
Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell of REC Sonbhadra has been inaugurated to
maintain compatible and healthy working atmosphere on the campus for female
students and employees where they can study and work safely.
The objective is to handle different Grievances of the girls and women
employees. The cell will look into any kind of activity which contains a potential
threat to safety, security or dignity of women and recommend measures to
overcome the threat.

Kalam Technical University”, Lucknow on the auspicious occasion of Teacher’s
Day, 05th September 2021.

Engineering Department currently received the “Best Paper Award” with co-
authors A.R. Mishra and R.P. Tripathi.
• Dr. Himanshu Katiyar (Associate Professor) and Dr. P.K. Verma (Assistant
Professor) of Electronics Engineering Department jointly received the “Best
paper Award” with co-authors A. K. Singh and S. Dixit.

The quote aptly describes the aim of UMEED. This community works for bringing
back light in the darkened lives of underprivileged children who have dealt with
scarcity of education their entire lives. The future Engineers work hard for
fulfilling this purpose. UMEED also initiated competitive coaching which resulted
in securing two positions in polytechnic exams by students.
