DLS ACTIVITY ON BASICS OF THE COMPUTER, BOOTING AND TYPING

ACTIVITY QUESTIONS
1. Spread your left and right palms on a sheet of paper. Use a pencil to trace the outline of your palm. On each
finger of your left palm trace, write ASDF and SPACE BAR on the left thumb. Then repeat the same for your right
palm trace, using ;LKJ and SPACE BAR on your right thumb. (Note: A sample on how your final answer should
look like is shown below.)

2. Draw the symbol for the power button.


3. What is the meaning of booting?
4. When putting on a computer system for use, how many power button will you press as taught during the
lesson?
5. On what device(s) is the power button(s) located?
6. Scroll to the next page. The sides of each key group on the computer keyboard is shown using different colours.
(a) Use Microsoft Paint to fill in the names or symbols for each key. Add it to the Word file indicated on the
submission guidelines.
(b) OR print out the computer keyboard, fill out the names or symbols for each key. Then snap and paste on the
Word file indicated on the submission guidelines.
7. Draw the sign shown on the following keys.
(a) ENTER (b) SHIFT (c) BACKSPACE
8. How many FUNCTION KEYS are on the computer keyboard?
9. Write out the alphabet or letter that is common to EVERY Function Key.
10. Is it an alphabet or a number that begins the FUNCTIONS KEYS?
11. How many NUMBERS KEYS are on the computer keyboard?
12. Write out the NUMBERS KEYS that are on the computer keyboard.
13. Study the NUMBERS/NUMERIC KEYPAD and the TYPING KEYS very well. Then write out the KEYS you can find on
the NUMBERS KEYPAD and also on the TYPING KEYS.
14. Write out all the punctuation marks you can identify on the computer keyboard.
15. What is the name of the longest key on the computer keyboard?

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1. The answer to the activity questions is to be sent as ONE FILE. The drawings for the drawings from questions 1,
2, 6, and 7 should be snapped and pasted on a Word file.
2. The same Word file should contain the answers to other activity questions using the appropriate question
number.
3. The file should be sent as an email attachment to cedarsictdept@[Link]
4. The subject of the email should be the name of the file.
5. The file should follow this naming pattern: DLS PC Basics GEG 1 – “your first name”
