Cate’s life
Eating, flying, climbing and swimming in Australia
DAY 1
Our first meal down under was at a restaurant in Sydney called ‘Bush’. Dad
ordered all the famous bushmeat dishes: an ostrich steak, a fried rattlesnake
and a kangaroo burger. ‘Come on, you’ll like it!’ said Dad, as he pushed a
5 big piece of kangaroo meat in my face. I shut my mouth, and didn’t touch
any of the food. Just an hour ago, I fed some cute baby kangaroos at a
wildlife park. I didn’t want to eat them for dinner. Clearly, the adults in my This is the kangaroo

for me.
DAY 2
10 We got up very early in the morning for a hot air balloon trip. It got really cold when we got up
there. Luckily, we all had thick coats on, so we were fine. We then returned to the city to visit the
famous Sydney Opera House. After that, we climbed to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge and
we saw a great view of the sunset.
DAY 3
15 We stayed at Bondi Beach for a short while in the morning, and it was cold and rainy . In the
afternoon, we left Sydney for Cairns. It was all blue skies and sunshine when we landed at Cairns
Airport.
DAY 4
The sunny weather in Cairns was perfect for our Great Barrier Reef outing. We swam with all the
20 colourful fish and coral reefs in the sea. Mum told us not to take the natural beauty around us for
granted. ‘Many sea creatures have died out because of global warming,’ she said.
