MICROSCOPE RETURN DEMONSTRATION GUIDE

Objectives:
By the end of the demonstration, students should be able to:
1. Properly care for and handle the microscope.
2. Set up and focus on a specimen correctly.
3. Demonstrate safe and effective use of microscope parts.

Instructions:
1. Microscope Setup (10 points)
Carry the microscope with both hands (one on the arm, one supporting the base).
Place the microscope on a clean, stable surface.
Check that the microscope is clean and in working condition.
2. Proper Care and Handling (10 points)
Clean the lenses using lens paper.
Adjust the light source properly before use.
Use the coarse and fine focus knobs correctly.
Handle the slides carefully to avoid damage.
3. Viewing and Focusing the Specimen (20 points)
Start with the lowest power objective (scanning lens).
Use the coarse adjustment knob to focus initially.
Switch to a higher objective lens and use the fine adjustment knob for clarity.
Adjust the diaphragm for proper lighting.
Center the specimen in the field of view.
Focused specimen:
Scanner: 0 or 5 pts
Low power: 0 or 5 pts
High power: 0 or 5 pts
4. Proper Storage and Cleanup (10 points)
Lower the stage and remove the slide carefully.
Clean the lenses if needed.
Rotate the lowest power objective into position.
Turn off the light source and unplug the microscope.
Cover the microscope and return it to its storage place.
