1.0 Introduction
Throughout history, schools have primarily adhered to a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching,
often failing to address the diverse needs and personalization that individual students desire.
This traditional method of instructions has long been criticised for its inability to cater to the
unique learning style and paces of individual students, which can lead to disengagement and
suboptimal educational outcomes. However, the advent of AI-based tools like ChatGPT,
DeepL, DALL-E, Midjourney, and Bing AI is revolutionizing education. According to a survey
conducted by Jörg von Garrel and Jana Mayer (2023), 63.4% of students use AI-based tools
for their studies, and of those, approximately 39.7% use these tools frequently. While there
are drawbacks, the significant benefits of AI in education typically outweigh these
disadvantages, hence, leading to its broad acceptance. This paper delves into how AI tools
are improving the education industry by promoting self-learning among students,
personalizing learning experiences to meet individual needs, and assisting students to access
rich educational resources.
2.0 Self-learning using Artificial Intelligence
First and foremost, self -learning consist of encouraging a more committed and manageable
learning atmosphere by using different study methods (Harry, 2023). Self- learning enables
students to develop a more creative and confident mindset. This leads to improved learning
skills, ability to attain realistic academic goals and higher retention skills (Holmes et al., 2022).
Furthermore, students become more likely to discover various topics on their own, deepening
their comprehension and knowledge about specific parts of the topic at their own pace(Harry,
2023) .
Secondly, Somasundaram (2020) introduced a plan organiser system with the help of AI to
help students set action plans, develop learning strategies as well as offer feedback based on
historic evidence taken from numerous universities as well as various students’ performances.
Artificial Intelligence (AI), encourages intensive self-studying by adapting to learners’ needs,
as demonstrated by platforms such as Khan Academy. The system adapts the level of difficulty
based on students' performance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) ensures that students are
consistently challenged and tested at appropriate levels, thus leading to predicted learning
gaps and suggesting the learning steps a student must take to improve their performance
resulting in a better self-learning path. As an open artificial intelligence platform, ChatGPT can
deliver text in reply to users' questions, claims and information requests. (Stokel-Walker, 2022)
Moreover, AI-driven technologies offer interactive and dynamic approaches such as, adaptive
educational systems, virtual simulations and intelligent tutoring systems that can help learners
seek assistance in numerous ways, leading to better academic performance. (Cavanagh,2022)
By providing a conversational interface, chatbots for example, Carnegie Learning's AI-
powered math software has been shown to improve student performance as well as providing
a personalized learning experience to tailor each student's proficiency level and interest.
Zheng et al., (2023) mentioned about empowering students with the use of smart teaching.
Learners have the availability to get access to learning portals, and break through the
limitations of restricted classrooms. Nowadays many artificial intelligence resources have
been developed. The platform provides a resource environment for smart learning, and self-
organized learning behaviour has become the mainstream way to acquire knowledge and
skills.
3.0 AI provides personalised feedback for students
Another advantage of AI is that it provides a faster and more reliable source of feedback.
According to Karandish (2021), while educators often face an overwhelming number of student
inquiries, making it impractical to address each student personally, AI can provide swift replies,
typically within 2.7 seconds on average. By automating responses to common questions and
providing immediate support, AI ensures that students receive the assistance they need
without delay, thereby facilitating a more continuous and engaging learning experience.
AI mitigates time spent on familiar subjects and eases frustration with more complex topics by
tailoring its approach to each student's knowledge level, learning pace, and specific goals. As
noted by Arena (2024), this adaptability maximizes efficiency and helps students improve their
grades more effectively, adopting the role akin to a private tutor. Having said that, Berberoğlu
and Tansel (2014) have demonstrated that personalized tutoring has a statistically positive
impact on students' competence in subjects like mathematics and Turkish language. Their
research highlights that the benefits of individualised attention, which AI can replicate on a
larger scale, ensuring that more students have access to the support they need to excel
academically.
Although AI may produce inaccuracies, biased responses, and skewed perspectives, human
educators are also prone to errors, particularly after extended periods of teaching. As Petrit
and Taraj’s (2023) research indicates, the stress of an educator can lead to lower job
satisfaction and potentially poorer feedback for students. In contrast, AI can offer consistent,
high-quality assistance regardless of external factors such as stress or fatigue.
Overall, introducing Artificial Intelligence academically simplifies the learning process by
providing personalized assistance, prompt feedback, and ongoing support. This leads to a
more efficient and satisfying educational experience for students, boosting their academic
performance and engagement.
Lastly, Artificial Intelligence are able to help students from all backgrounds to access
higher quality education (Harry, 2023). Most AI generated tools are able to encourage
students to actively participate in learning, enhances their critical thinking as well as
problem solving skills, and designing a dynamic learning platform which mirrors real-life
situations. For example, AI tools like Quizlet are capable of providing quizzes and study
materials created by educators around the world for students to practice and study, so
that students are able to choose the study materials that best suit them. Research shows
that Quizlet is helping over 50 million students every month.
4.0 Artificial Intelligence helps students access to rich educational resources
In this modern era, there are many ways in which AI can help students to obtain more
educational resources. Firstly, AI can make learning more engaging and approachable through
gamification. Nguyen (2023) found that Artificial Intelligence is crucial to enhance the quality
of education by combining technological advancements and educational principles. In this
case, AI can provide elements such as game rewards in educational games to attract student’s
attention and cultivate a love for learning. Also, AI can determine how well students perform
and quickly modify the game’s difficulty to ensure it matches student’s level. This is to
encourage students to challenge themselves and improve in their own pace.
Following that, Artificial Intelligence can be used to support collaborative learning. Online
learning assistant and intelligent tutoring system helps to provide support and guide as well
as encourages more collaboration amongst students. As stated by Robert et al., (2024) these
AI tools mimic real-life situations, promoting active participations, problem-solving skills. By
encouraging interaction as well as collaboration, AI allow social learning, collaborative skills
and more towards a student. For example, students can be divided into groups and use AI
tools for language learning in the classroom. AI can simulate real conversations with students
and analyse student’s pronunciation to enhance their confidence and fluency.
By using AI tools to obtain more academic resources, it can help students make it more
convenient and save time. AI tools can assist them in estimating the time to spent on each
subject. Moreover, AI tools help in accessing a wide variety of information in a shorter time
compared to seek for information one by one by flipping through books. According to Razali
et al., (2018), time management determines the overall achievements and performance of
students. Furthermore, AI tools also provide to-do lists for students to have a better plan in
their studies (Hashim, 2020).
Lastly, Artificial Intelligence is able to help students from all backgrounds to access higher
quality education (Harry, 2023). Most AI tools are able to encourage students to actively
participate in learning, enhance their critical thinking as well as problem solving skills, and
design a dynamic learning platform which mirrors real-life situations. For example, tools like
Quizlet are capable of providing quizzes and study materials created by educators around the
world for students to practice and study, so that students are able to choose the study materials
that best suit them. By implementing AI to Quizlet, learning becomes even more beneficial for
students. Quizlet provides one on one tutoring, also known as Q-chat. Q-chat is an AI tutor
that provides a range of learning resources to help students achieve good results in exams on
their own terms.
5.0 AI may potentially foster student passivity and engender instances of misuse
This research so far has given a few insights related to the positive aspects of Artificial
Intelligence academically, potential disadvantages such as procrastination and temptation
cause a significant impact among students. The use of Ai tools has become more common to
evade academic responsibilities, for example using ChatGPT to complete academic tasks
makes the learner believe that they will be able to complete it in a shorter time. Being more in
control over their work can give a feeling of encouragement to non-proactive activities,
academic dishonesty and delay in work submission, thus resulting in procrastination.
Additionally, recent studies shows that excessive usage of ChatGPT may make learners more
and more lazy. (Yilmaz & Yilmaz, 2023).
Developing an increased dependency on AI academically also raises concern about the
decrease in social interaction, as self-learning experiences controlled by AI-tools may diminish
the importance of teacher-student interactions that contribute to self-learning. Additionally,
there relying on Artificial Intelligence might be a significant risk is a risk, potentially leading to
a passive learning experience for learners. While AI can provide customised content and
evaluation, it is essential to a balance between AI-driven technologies and human
communication. Teachers and policymakers must ensure that AI-driven tools enhance and
purse more and more human instructions.
Moreover, cheating is more accessible specially when students are tired and overloaded with
work. Many turn to Ai tools quicker than expected as it is more convenient and a faster option
rather than going through tiresome process of research essays and other assignment resulting
to risk in plagiarism. A study was conducted by Namjoo (2023) among 20 students who have
made use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for self-learning. Participants representing different fields
of study were used to make judgments and identify patterns within the interview data. Major
topics including engaging with AI tools, educational objective, problems encountered and
giving an insight of AI academically. Learners outlined positive results of AI on engagement,
enhanced knowledge retention and skill development. However, technical issues, content
limitations, and concerns about data privacy were highlighted as significant challenges.
Different observations of the use of Ai academically vary from positive outcomes about future
opportunities to worry about the consequences. Different observations of the use of Ai

6.0 Conclusion
To summarize, the integration of artificial intelligence and education provides tailored learning
experiences, efficient feedback mechanisms, and augmented access to resources, enhancing
student’s academic performance. By using AI in their studies, students are able to engage
with more interactive such as problem-solving activities, enhancing their creativity, working in
teamwork and more. All these experiences mirror the real-life situations, which helps to
prepare students for future challenges they may encounter. However, concerns and
shortcomings of using AI in education need to be considered and addressed. These include
the effects of procrastination and temptation, loss of human interaction, overreliance on
artificial intelligence, and greater ease of cheating. Despite concerns of student passivity and
academic dishonesty, the advent of AI-detector technologies ensures academic integrity. Thus,
AI promises transformative advancements in pedagogy, fostering dynamic and enriched
learning environments for students. As might be expected, AI chatbots have already been
implemented in the educational system of many educational institutions and organizations
(Yeruva et al., 2023). Overall, the influence of AI towards students is dynamic and ever
changing. By embracing opportunities for success, making wise judgements, and overcoming
obstacles, we can utilize artificial intelligence to revolutionize the education field and equip
students to meet the needs of the future.
