MECHATRONICS PATH
Double Degree with Shibaura Institute of Technology (Tokyo)

To gain the Master’s Degree at the Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) in Tokyo, the acquisition
of 30 SIT Credits is required. Comparing course syllabi between UNIVAQ and SIT (attached to
present document), it is possible to deduct that 1 SIT credit is approximately equivalent to 4
UNIVAQ credits.
The two years of the Master’ Degree Course are divided in 4 Semesters: the first two of them
constitutes the first year; the latter two semesters, the second year of the Course.
Academic activity at SIT starts in March each year. Therefore, 1st Semester at SIT corresponds to
2nd Semester at UNIVAQ, as represented below.

* The agreement between with SIT states that both Italian and Japanese students should develop a
laboratory activity aimed at the development of their final thesis and equivalent to 12 SIT credits.
The agreement also states that all the students should acquire 6 of those credits at UNIVAQ and the
remaining 6 at SIT. For simplicity, all the credits for thesis are reported at the 3rd Semester, while
they are acquired in all the 3 semesters. It’s clear that F-Type credits at UNIVAQ are included
within this 6 SIT credits.
** UNIVAQ students gain the double degree acquiring 120 CFU as prescribed by UNIVAQ
REGULATION for the acquisition of the title of “Dottore in Ingegneria Meccanica” and gaining
additional credits, as a consequence of the agreement with SIT. These latter credits constitutes an
important curricular detail which may be easily valued. As an example, it may be included in the
Diploma Supplement which is a valid document for European Commission, European Counsel, and
UNESCO/CEPES, having the aim to share data for a correct International recognition of Academic
and professional abilities and qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates, ….).

SIT  UNIVAQ MOBILITY

SIT Students start the 1st semester of their master’s degree at UNIVAQ. Then, they attend 2nd and
3rd semester at SIT. Lastly, they complete their 4th Semester at UNIVAQ, according to the
following.
