.
Explain the following terms:
1 a) Interzonal Trip b) Intrazonal Trip c) Through Trip d) Base Year
e) Horizon Year f) CBD g) Desire Line
What is Trip Generation? Explain in detail the factor governing trip generation and
2
attraction rate.
Table shows data for vehicle trips per day, as related to income and persons in
household for one zone of study area, develop trip generation equation and find which
model is more reliable.
Income in thousand Persons in household Trips per day
3 47 3 2
99 5 3
145 6 5
189 7 4
244 8 5
A self contained city having four residential area A, B, C and D, Two industrial estates X
and Y, the generation equation shows that trips from home to work from each residential
area are given below during 24 hours per day. There are 3500 jobs in X zone and 4000 jobs
in Y zone. It is also known that attraction between zones is inversely proportional to square
of journey times between zones. The journey time is mentioned below.
Zone X Y
4 A 15 20
B 16 10
C 10 11
D 14 20
Calculate the inter zonal trips for home to work by gravity Model.
A = 1,000; B = 2,000; C = 1,500; D = 3,000
5 The overall growth factor of the area along with the growth factor of individual zones
and present trip distribution numbers are shown in figure below. Using Uniform growth
factor, average growth factor ,furness, fratar and Detroit method distribute the trips to
the various zones

Describe gravity model with formula showing each parameter. Also explain calibration
6
of gravity model.

7 Enlist different growth factor models for trip distribution, explain in detail every one.

8 Describe in brief trip interchange and trip end model.

Write a short note on :
(i) All-or-nothing assignment method
9 (ii) Diversion curve method
(iii) Capacity Restraint Assignment
(iv) Multiroute assignment
10 What is modal split? Discuss factors affecting modal split.
Three zones A, B and C are connected by two lane roads as shown in figure below, with
travel time by bus shown in bracket and travel time by car.

The probability (Pe) of choosing the car mode is found to be given by

Pe = 1 / (1+e –u(x)) where U(x) = 0.86 – 0.08(tt car - tt bus).
The total trip exchange between zones are as follows:
From A B A C B C
To B A C A C B
Tip 1200 0 500 1800 400 500
Determine the two way volume in cars and busper day and on the road AB if the average
car occupancy is 2.8 and 49.
