Circumpennate Muscle Structure Explained

The document describes different forms of internal structure of skeletal muscle, including unipennate, bipennate, multipennate, and circumpennate muscles. Unipennate muscles have fibers that pass obliquely to a tendon on one side, while bipennate muscles have fibers from two sides converging on a central tendon. Multipennate muscles consist of multiple bipennate arrangements, and circumpennate muscles feature fibers from all sides converging on a central tendon.

Different Forms of Internal Structure of Skeletal Muscle

Unipennate Muscles
The muscle in which the tendon lies along one side of the muscle and the muscle fiber pass
obliquely to it. Example: Extensor digitorum longus.

Bipennate Muscle
The muscle in which the tendon lie in the center of the muscle and the muscle fibers pass to
it from two sides. Example: Rectus femoris.

Multipennate Muscle
The muscle arranged as a series of bipennate muscles lying alongside one another. Example:
deltoid (acromial fibers).

Circumpennate
The tendon lying within the center and the muscle fibers passing to it from all side.
Example: Tibialis anterior.
