Week 11 reading log
1. Evidence: Clear Bay water in Hong Kong
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: Personally, I feel very affected by this photo. It just
goes to show you how much trash humans as a species use all the time. No pone takes time to
recycle or even throw stuff away or even worse compost. The planet is one of things that is so
obviously taken for granted. All the trash and waste that is so close to the ocean even spilling
into the ocean just shows how wasteful we as humans are with our garbage.
2. Evidence: what does this photo tell you
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: These photos could be arguing a few different points.
One of the points being that we have an overabundance of trash covering the entire world.
Another point of argument could be we are running out of space to put all of our trash and need
to reduce the idea of multipurpose more sustainable packaging.
3. Evidence: How do you get to campus
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: Personally, I go to class online so I don’t have to be on
campus. I had some issues on campus with general safety and overall protection so it’s just easier
for me to be online. Easier mentally not actually easy haha. However, if I do go to campus it’s
always with someone as well and I do get a ride from my friend since I don’t have a car.
4. Evidence: why did he use these words
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I feel that the reason he uses the words moron or
dummies helps his point. If he used a different word I feel it wouldn’t be as effective.
5. Evidence: wasting food
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: Honestly, I try not tp be wasteful within food but it’s
super hard when you can’t choose your portions. I don’t eat a whole lot of food and the portions
of most either frozen food or fast food are too big. However, I’m a big supporter of leftovers
because I always eat my leftovers. However, my family is completely different. They always buy
a lot of milk and a lot of leftovers from dinner. I can eat only certain things because of my
extremely sensitive body. So I usually eat all the fruits and vegetables but I can’t have any milk
or anything with lactose.
6. Evidence: using charts as evidence
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I’m one of those people who can look at a chart or if
someone uses a chart as their evidence. I’ll most likely be more likely to believe them. I find
charts really persuasive and smart sounding so I was more likely to enjoy this for evidence
because I believed it more.
7. Evidence: Interstellar trip
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I’ve seen enough movies set IN space to know that
space is not for me. A spaceship with a group of people you’re around for thirty some odd years?
No, definitely not. I don’t really see myself as helpful on a trip like this. I do also suffer from
fear in small places and get sick with rapid movements so I definitely don’t see myself going on
a trip like this.
8. Evidence: is this effective
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I believe he uses this in his prologue to instill fears
inside the reader. Using the ethos as well as pathos approach when discussing his point about the
planet. It is an effective strategy because it might be the only way someone could understand
how seriously we have to change our ways to save our dying planet.
9. Evidence: facing the future
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: Honestly, it’s easy to have this everlasting hope that
humans will change their ways and help clean the world instead of causing more damage.
However, I also believe that the human race are selfish and stuck in their own ways. I get it
staying in the same routine everyday after doing it for so long it’s hard to change. It’s also
difficult to start a change when it feels like nothing is changing. Personally I see myself living as
happily married and sustainably as possible with the love of my life with my own little family. I
also see myself going to school for my art degree and hopefully getting a job storyboarding
animation like I’ve always wanted.
10. Evidence: new world
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I can’t. Honestly things have been the same for so long
that I cannot imagine the idea of it all being gone and people starting from scratch. I feel like
humans are too selfish to start the world over again. Even if we made the most unselfish person
the leader I they’d somehow go hungry with power and greed and the world wouldn’t be any
better than it is now.
11. Evidence: new world part 2
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I believe all the imagery not only resembles hope but
also hopelessness. Honestly the so-called “new world” is basically the same as the old world.
Lots of smog and problems. Nothing is exactly fixed.
12. Evidence: 2001 space odyssey
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: The movie I’m choosing to go over in 2001: A Space
Odyssey. I’m choosing this because it’s the one I’ve seen the most out of the three. It’s also my
boyfriend's favorite movie. Anyways I feel like even though the movie was wet in space it had a
lot to do with the human race and the circle of life more than the environment. Now of course it’s
not like the other movies like Blade Runner or Back to the future which have flying cars and all
sorts of new distorted technology as well as a failing environment that relies on technological
advances. 2001 however, like I said, focuses on the circle of life as well as humans and the
human race in general. I mean these are just movies but some have important lessons such as not
destroying the environment, making sure our planet stays healthy, knowing that global warming
is a thing. In all movies the future always looks somewhat distorted and dusty and orange.
13. Evidence: optimistic
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I try to be optimistic in most things. Especially with
things that I’m involved with. Like I live in the United States so i try to be as optimistic as I can
be. However, lately it’s been more difficult to be optimistic. However, I still try my best to be
because if the United States needs anything it’s hope and optimism.
14. Evidence: changing America
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I believe that using the evidence he had is much better
than straining and stretching to get more. That would make the evidence floppy. I enjoyed
reading the evidence he did have and felt it proved his point.
15. Evidence: target ads
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: It’s weird because I was just talking about this the
other day. I’ve been getting programmed ads targeted toward me and they are ads and food
sponsors for Space Jam 2. I have no idea why it’s targeted towards me but it is. I’m the only one
who got these ads and I told my sister and boyfriend about it and now they're getting the same
ad. It’s crazy how the internet works.
16. Evidence: future historians and internet
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: They are comparing the internet and future historians.
Basically the essay is about them discussing how people in the future look back at our internet.
They won’t understand it and that’s okay.
17. Evidence: how will Americans look in the future
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I feel like most Americans would probably look the
same. I’m a big believer in trends and I feel like one day giant huge hair is gonna make a
comeback. Also I feel like guys are gonna want to look like Johnny bravo but with crazy trench
coats and cool boots.
18. Evidence: separated more than ever
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: Personally I think that he was trying to have a
metaphorical meaning and a real meaning. Everything will be more divided than put together.
With how America’s going right now everyone’s going to be on their own separate side more
than ever
19. Evidence: advances
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I believe that the whole point of advances is things
getting better. Things are great now technology wise but I think the way we’re going it can
always get better.
20. Evidence: space program and Big advances
My thoughts, opinions and interpretation: I believe he means whatever big things come along.
Like for example how they possibly want to be able to take normal people to space. They want a
cruise type space program. I believe that’s what he means by getting the big things done.
