The Spirit of Cat

Cats walk through the world as living whispers, graceful, mysterious, and ephemeral. The Spirit
of Cat is an artistic interpretation of feline presence, their physical beauty and some feelings
they arouse. Through painting, photography, and mixed media, this exhibition explores themes
of still-ness, motion, remembrance and attention, asking the audience to view cats not only as
animals experts at doing "nothing," but as metaphors for mystery, autonomy and silent
communion.

And each work in this collection explores the feline spirit from a unique angle. “Fragmented
Rest” shows a cat in a blissful sleep, yet its shape is broken and viscous, hinting at a
relationship between presence and absence. This can represent the intensity of the world
around us while we experience a soft and delicate balance defining what we see.

In “Echoes of a Gaze,” the attention turns to the cat’s eyes and the world they open into of
unspoken understanding. This warped viewpoint invites scrutiny into our understanding of
connection, and the image wt connection, and the heaviness a single gaze can carry. The
abstraction of this piece mirrors just how complex emotion can be, as it reminds us all that
recognition cannot just be defined physically.
