Born to a doctor father and an engineer mother, architecture, to me, honestly, was never a serious career
option until reality struck in 9th grade. A fortuitous visit to “Future of Architecture” seminar at CEPT was my
first tryst with the prodigious world of architecture; I was mesmerized by the entire experience. From then
on, with many more such experiences, I started contemplating a career in Architecture. By the time I
completed my 12th grade, I was very sure that I would want to pursue an undergraduate degree in
architecture and hence I had no hesitation in seeking admission at Sarvajanik ----------------- (SCET)), top
10 institutes in the nation, in my hometown.
In retrospect, Five years at [Link] been a memorable experience with learning not only in architecture
but a lot other aspects. Initial years engrossed me in theories related to history and technologies of
architecture and subsequently, the sensitivity towards Architecture evolved gradually. Then was the time I
started following the works of the genius namely Charles Correa, [Link], Laurie Baker, Tadao Ando,
Daniel Libeskind, Steven Holl, Peter Eisenman, and other regional architects. With well planned design
studios at SCET, my proximity towards architecture grew exponentially in these five [Link], with annual
national study tours, an international tour to rome and training in Bangalore, the change was bound to
happen. Being secretary of the Architecture Students Activity Council (ASAC) at S.C.E.T. for the 2012 term
was where my managerial skills developed and was praised for the same.
During the final semester, which I consider to be the most significant, I presented a thesis “Samiti (House
of People) – Relooking Azad Maidan, Mumbai as a Democratic Public Place” received considerable
comments in the internal juries. One very encouraging comment came from Ar. Riyaz Tyabji, the external
juror, stating it to be one of the most maturely dealt programs at the bachelor level compared to all his
experiences of past juries. However, I got a setback for not being able to match up my performance during
the external jury in comparison to my grades in internal juries. I have genuine arguments in my favor
regarding this matter, and I know that there were many internal and external reasons for this debacle, but I
have long accepted it as a lesson that life teaches you, and have moved on. The grades in my previous
semesters including the scores in internal juries however are a testament to the fact that the one poor
performance was nothing more than an aberration.
After bachelors, I joined [Link] Dave, National President of IIID and the Chairman of Asia Pacific Space
Designers Association. Four months of working with him so far has exposed me to the practical aspects of
architecture and the eye towards professionalism was then developed with a variety of projects and number
of site visits and dealing with the workers and other agencies. During the same period, I came in contact
with many renowned architects including Charles Chorea during his recent visit to Surat. The voracity to
learn more along with the meetings with the legends inspired me to study further in the field of architecture.
During various discussions with my father and grandfather, both are doctors, along with my visits to many
well known health establishments, I have realized that there is a dearth of architects in India who have an
expertise in designing such establishments. Also, owing to my lineage, I have an inner desire to make a
contribution towards the health sector and ______________________ is one way of accomplishing this desire.
Thus, I envisage a career in which I would be able to establish myself as an architect who specializes in
designing healthcare facilities.
Having navigated the university’s web portal, I am convinced that Masters of Architecture offered by your
esteemed university is an aptly designed course that will provide me the freedom to explore in any and
every direction. In particular, I am highly fascinated by the. ----------------------------------------------------
