OUR CURRICULUM
During your child’s stay in our program his/her educator will provide opportunities for
you to come and discuss your child’s progress.
The following activities outline your child’s program.
GROSS MOTOR (Large Muscle Movement)
1. To enhance body awareness
2. To enhance coordination and balance
3. To play imaginatively and promote problem solving
4. To promote spatial relations (body in relation to objects)
5. To encourage an appreciation of the outdoors
ART/CREATIVE
1. To stimulate the senses
2. To promote freedom of self-expression and build self-esteem

5. To enhance language skills
6. To develop small muscles and fine motor coordination
7. To explore a variety of mediums
COGNITIVE/FINE MOTOR
1. To exercise and coordinate small muscles

SENSORY
1. To stimulate the senses (smell, touch, hear, taste, sight)

A calendar of daily activities is published and available to the parents on a monthly
basis. Newsletters are published on a quarterly basis.
STAFF
The Elephant Room Daycare Centre staff consists of an Executive Director,
Administration; Program Supervisor, Early Childhood Educators, Educational Assistants
and a Cook/Nutritionist. All Early Childhood Educators hold a diploma or degree in
Early Childhood Education. The educator: student ratio is as per the Day Nurseries Act.
In addition to ratios indicated below, student teachers in training from various colleges,
universities and educational institutions are involved in our program. Students are a
great asset to our program, however are not included in required program ratios.
