P-Way Gauge & Structure
• Gauge: - It is the shortest distance between the gauge faces of rail of a track between two rails.

a. Ballasted Track: - A ballasted track is a railway track that has a layer of ballast material
beneath the rails. The ballast is usually made of crushed stone, gravel, or similar materials.
b. Ballastless Track:- A ballastless track is a railway track that uses concrete or asphalt
instead of ballast to support the rails.

Turnouts & It’s Definition
• Turnout : - A turnout is a mechanical device that allows trains to change the
tracks.
It is also define, a connection arrangement used to connect one line to
another for the purpose of making a movement from one line to other line.
• Tongue Rail :- It is a tapered movable rail made of high carbon or manganese
steel to withstand wear
• Stock Rail : - It is a running line against which tongue rail operates.
• Slide Chair : - Slide Chair is the base plate at which pair of tongue rail moves.
• Starcher Bar : - Stretcher Bar is a rod connecting both the tongue rail.
