The first sentence of a paragraph often introduces the main idea.
Supporting sentences provide examples, reasons, or evidence.
Look for transition words (for example, however, therefore) to see relationships between ideas.

Argument and Refutation Introduces an idea or claim.
(An idea is presented and then refuted) Refutes it with reasoning or evidence.
