1. Jameel says that the most important function of a manager is to direct, while Rosanne
says that it is to motivate. What do you think is the most important function of a
manager and why?

I think the most important function of a manager is to direct. This is because directing helps
keep everyone on the same track towards achieving the company’s goals. A manager who
directs well can guide the team to complete tasks, solve problems, and stay organized. Even
though motivating is important to keep people engaged, directing provides the clarity needed
for everyone to perform their jobs effectively.

2. Identify three functions of management that are closely related. Show the links
between these functions by giving an example.

Three closely related functions of management are planning, organizing, and controlling.
Planning involves setting objectives and determining a course of action for achieving these
objectives. Organizing involves arranging resources and tasks to achieve goals efficiently
and, Controlling involves monitoring and evaluating activities to ensure that goods are being
met. Here is an example to show the links between these three functions; if a manager plans
to increase sales by 30%, he/she might organize their teams to focus on customer service,
They can also control the process by tracking sale numbers each week to make sure that this
goal is being met.

3. Identify two groups that managers are responsible to, and show how they are
responsible.
Two groups that managers are responsible to are employees and the owners/shareholders.
They are responsible to employees by ensuring a safe working environment, fair treatment,
appropriate wages and benefits, and to give clear directions. They are responsible to
owners/shareholders by providing them with accurate, reliable information about the
performance of the business, and generating profits (private sector organizations) or surpluses
(public sector organizations).
