Welcome to the Fifty Third Edition .
Opening Ceremony On Tuesday April 3rd we will hold our Opening Ceremony at the schoolfrom 9.15am. This is to welcome our new K1 children, our new Elementary children in G1 and ALL new children who have entered the school. Letters have been sent home to parents of new children entering MIS in April as well as all K3 parents. Only parents of new children or children in the new K1 and G1 classes will be expected to come. Opening Ceremony Order Opening Speech by Head of School. Children singing the School Song. Introduction of all Teaching Staff. Welcome to all new children. Class Representatives to say a few words about the school. Thank you from Head of School. Please be aware that all children are expected to attend this ceremony and should therefore be wearing school uniforms and be smart.
Curriculum Overviews Curriculum Overviews will be sent home on April 3rd. Teachers will be in school on Monday April 2nd on training.
G6 Residential Trip Well done to Mr. Thompson, Nikko-san, Mr. Gunn, Ms. Belsher and Miyata-san for surviving the Grade 6 residential trip. We have only heard great things about how sensible and well behaved the children were and about what a wonderful time they had. They represented the school very well and I am sure they helped the reputation of MIS to spread even further in Chiba.
Spelling Bee For those who didnt read our tweets or facebook posts, Haruka Masuda won the Japan Times Spelling Bee competition recently and is now representing Japan in Washington USA at the International. We are all very proud of her achievements! Well done!
No Bazaar next academic year!! As parents will agreewe had a wonderful Bazaar on March 3rd. However, we were very lucky with the weather! The days before and after the Bazaar were cold and rainy. Therefore MIS would like to change the date of the next Bazaar to June. This unfortunately would mean not holding the next one until June 2013 which would be after next Academic Year. It would only be a few months after our usual March date though so we feel this is an acceptable change and hope parents also feel this is acceptable. As mentioned, the weather would be much warmer alloying more fun events to take place at this time.
Class Moves on March 14th It is a good idea for children who are moving up a grade to spend a little time getting used to their new teacher and surroundings before the new school year starts. Therefore, on Wednesday of this past week, Kindergarten children moved up a grade in the morning and Elementary children moved up a grade in the afternoon. As Grades 5 and 6 were out swimming we did not have to worry about where Grade 6 would go. (Grade 5 are with Mr. Rose once more in April for that first term.) The day went very well and we had lots of support staff to ensure that the children were not too worried or upset by having to go to another class with another teacher.
Bazaar Profits Some parents may be interested in how much money the school made from the recent Bazaar and what we are going to do with that money? Although we are still counting and receiving last minute donations we calculate that we have raised a considerable amount of money to put towards shading for the school. Shading is very important in the summer months especially when the sunshine can be quite dangerous for children playing outside, if unprotected. As parents will remember, last year this was our aim. However, shading is very expensiveespecially if ordering the correct one for the school. Therefore we decided to delay buying last year. Since that time the PTA has also expressed an interest in buying or contributing towards shading. So we are at the stage where we will (over the upcoming academic year) either work with the PTA to buy something together, fund this separately or leave to the PTA and use the money for something separately. As always we will inform MIS parents once a final decision has been made. Farewell to those leaving. Today we held our Grade 6 Graduation Ceremony and yesterday we held our Kindergarten 3 Graduation Ceremony. All of our Grade 6 children are leaving the school from today and (as was already said in a moving Ceremony today) we would like to wish them well for their future lives and schooling and thank them for being such an important year groupsince joining the school. We would also like to say a farewell to all those children leaving MIS at this time, for whatever reasonand wish them well in the future. Also a final thanks and goodbye to Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Sharma.
G3 Edo Museum Trip Last week Grade 3 children went on a trip to the Edo Museum in Tokyo. They were well prepared and learnt a lot. As usual they behaved very well and were a credit to the school. Well done to all of Grade 3.

next Monday. Bazaar Thanks. The second annual Bazaar proved to be a huge success, thank you to all the parents, students and friends of the school who attended. We would like to extend a special thanks to the following businesses who assisted us in making the Bazaar so successful. English Adventures, Starbucks Coffee, Outback Restaurant, Oriental Land, SOMOS Kids Club, Kidzania, Oxford Travel, Yanase, DeFacto, Lime Graphics, Ford Chiba, Lands End Clothing, Coca cola, Cook Maruei, and Bloomberg Also a very big thanks to the parents and PTA who helped support on the day through the running of the various stalls and all the families who kindly donated various goods.
