The first power stations were built near the end of the 1800s.
The electricity they produced was originally used for lighting.
Later, scientists and engineers developed motors and
electronic components. Today, we use electricity for many
different things in everyday life.
Many of the things we do today could be done without
electricity, but there are some things we do that are only
possible using electrical equipment.
