What is It?

TYPES OF ELECTRICAL DEVICES :

1. Electrical Timer - A time switch also called a timer switch, or simply timer is a timer
that operates an electric switch controlled by the timing mechanism. The switch
may be connected to an electric circuit operating from the main power, including
via a relay or contactor; or low voltage, including battery-operated equipment in
vehicles.

2. Electrical Relay - A relay allows circuits to be switched by electrical equipment, for

example, a timer circuit with a relay could switch power at a preset time. For
many years relays were the standard method of controlling industrial electronic
systems.

5
3. Electric Circuit Breaker - A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical
device designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by excess
current from an overload.

4. Magnetic Contactor – Magnetic contactors are a form of electrical relay found on most
electrically powered motors. They act as a go-between for direct power sources,
and high-load electrical motors in order to homogenize or balance out changes
in electrical frequency which may come from a power supply as well as to act as
a safeguard.

5. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter ( GFCI ) - A ground-fault circuit interrupter, or GFCI, is

a fast-acting circuit breaker designed to shut off electric power in the event of
a ground-fault within as little as 1/40 of a second. It works by comparing the
amount of current going to and returning from equipment along the circuit
conductors.

6
6. Dimmer Switch - Dimmers switch are devices connected to a lighting fixture attached
to the switch and used to lower the brightness of light.

7. Commercial Receptacles – Commercial receptacles or outlets are extra durable and

are ideal for constant use at any business or commercial area.

8. Commercial Switches – Commercial switch will last longer due to heavier contacts for
switching longevity.

7
9. Electrical Sensors - An electrical sensor is a device or integrated circuit that detects a
specific physical parameter. It can detect everything from light to distance to
acceleration.

10. Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter – An arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) also known as an
arc-fault detection device (AFDD) is a circuit breaker that breaks the circuit
when it detects the electric arcs if there is a sign of loose connections in a
home wiring.

11. Limit Switch - A limit switch is an electromechanical device that consists of an actuator
mechanically linked to a set of contacts. When an object comes into contact
with the actuator, the device operates the contacts to make or break an
electrical connection. This is mostly use in escalators.

What I Need To Know

Electrical materials are the different parts that help to make an electrical
installation successful. There can be hundreds of different types of electrical
materials that can be used. Materials are generally split into four main groups: metals,
polymers, ceramics, and composites.

What’s In

Electrical materials are classified into four and they are Conductors, those
that will conduct electricity and purely metals, Semi conductors those that will conduct
electricity in a temporary action, Isolators or insulators those that will not conduct
electricity and Magnetic materials, those that are used as magnet during the conduct of
electricity.
