Department of Urology
The prestigious Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a
highly motivated and dedicated Junior Clinical Fellow for 12 months. The successful candidate
will be joining the largest Urological Department in the UK. We are a highly specialist centre
seeing patients from across the UK and overseas as well as being a centre of excellence for
research.
The department offers comprehensive care for the whole spectrum of Urology services and is
split into 6 sub-groups, the teams work together closely along with other services such as
gynaecology, women’s health, assisted conception unit, oncology and the Uro-radiology.

The Westmoreland Street site provides successful candidates the opportunity to work across
all Urology sub-specialty teams within the department, with exposure to both elective and
emergency admissions. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in:
the surgical management and treatment of complex benign urological cases and
urological cancer
opportunities for experience in a variety of procedures, e.g. flexible cystoscopy lists
research/publication opportunities, with previous Junior Clinical Fellows presenting at
both national and international conferences.
CV/career progression with high success rate for entry into higher specialist training.
Key Working Relationships
You will be working in a large urology department with high sub-specialist teams which are
highly multidisciplinary in nature and lead clinically by the consultants in that team. You will
be primarily attached to a sub specialty and provide cross cover for colleagues in other teams.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The general duties of the post include:
The Junior Clinical Fellow will have primary charge of the day to day care of Urology
inpatients.
The Junior Clinical Fellow will attend ward rounds with the Consultants and Specialist
Registrar and will be expected to visit each of their firm’s patients on a daily basis
Junior Clinical Fellow will be expected to liaise closely with the full range of multi-
disciplinary teams involved in their care. Attendance and support for the weekly multi-
disciplinary team meeting will be a requirement of the role.
Ensure regular and accurate updating of patient medical case-notes. This will include
key documentation such as the admission notes, continuation notes, discharge
summaries and other associated letters ensuring an accurate and full record of the
patient’s care.
To take responsibility of updating electronic records including e-operation notes and e-
discharge summaries.
Ensure patients are optimised for timely discharge
Completion of discharge summaries, ensuring that key patient management forms
such as diagnostic request forms and TCI cards are accurately completed.
Working with other wards staff and departments to ensure tests and drugs are
ordered and administered.
Setting up of intravenous drips, giving IVU injections as and when required.
Clerking of patients during admissions and pre-admission.
The Service doctor will also be expected to take part in and present audit and research
projects.
Working in collaboration with medical PAs and admissions staff to compile operating
lists
There will also be opportunities to be involved with teaching of junior staff.
On call commitment
The role is in line with European Working Time Directive rules and is classed as following a
Band 1A rota. The on-call duties are 1 in 8 days, weekends and nights on-call.
Other
