Reflection

Working on a ship shows how important it is to connect with people from


different cultures and backgrounds. The seafarers’ stories highlight the challenges
they face in their workspaces, like adapting to the tough environment and
balancing different responsibilities. Despite these challenges, they show resilience
and a commitment to teamwork. Their ability to work well in such a unique
setting is inspiring.

One of the most important lessons from their experiences is the value of
communication, especially when dealing with diverse nationalities. English
becomes the common language that helps them bridge gaps, but they also use
body language and gestures to make sure they are understood. When
miscommunication happens, they solve it with patience and understanding,
showing how vital it is to stay calm and flexible. Their openness to diversity,
including the LGBTQIA community, creates a more inclusive and harmonious
workplace.

Lastly, the Filipino seafarers’ adaptability stands out. They learn to respect and
embrace other cultures while sharing their own values. This mutual respect is key
to building strong relationships on the ship. Their ability to adapt and their
respect for diversity teach us the importance of understanding and valuing each
person’s background, especially in a multicultural world.
