Writing in the EFL Classroom

The unit objectives include:


• Understand the differences between the product and process approaches to writing.
• Identify the steps of the writing process.
• Evaluate the application of the writing process in the EFL classroom.
• Determine best practices for implementing the writing process in the EFL classroom.
• Identify the various forms of feedback and the utility of each.
• Identify ways to help students improve their writing.
• Check comprehension of Units 1-6 of the course.

Activities:
• Read Unit 6 of the course manual.
• Read the article, Approaches to process writing, by Graham Stanley. It explains process
writing, as applicable to EFL students, regardless of age. It includes practical classroom
activities and ideas.
• Refer to the two writing process diagrams for simple, graphic descriptions that you could
even share with your students.
• Watch the video, Austin's Butterfly: Building Excellence in Students' Work.
• Read the instructions for AEC1. Watch the Instructional Video and take a look at the
sample lesson plan in the online classroom. Turn in AEC1 before the deadline, which is
posted in the online classroom.
• Ask any questions you might have in the Forum for questions on Units 1-10.
