Cable Sizing
To calculate the cross section of submersible drop cable, apply the following formula.
For DOL starting
q= I*1.73*100*L*1/x*Cos phi
U*delta U - (I*1.73*100*L*Xi*Sin phi) 1.732050807569
For Star-Delta starting
q= I*100*L*1/x*Cos phi
U*delta U - (I*1.73*100*L*Xi*Sin phi)
Where
U= Rated voltate (v)
Delta U = Voltage drop (%)
I= Rated current of the motor (Amp)
q= Cross section of cable (mm2)
Xi = Inductive resistance of cable material = 0.0078x10-3 ohm/m
Cos phi = Power factor of motor
Sin phi = Square root (1 - Cos phi) 0.0000078
L= Length of drop cable (mt)
Roh = 1/x
x= 52 m/ohm x mm2 for copper cable
35 m/ohm x mm2 for aluminium cable
The following table calculates the cable size automatically by inserting the current I and cable length L.
