Note:
Remember to make proper acknowledgement (APA citation).
Make adjustment to suit the context of your study if required. Keep proper record of the
amendments made, if any. A recommended method is as below:

Always go for higher level scale that is interval or ratio.

Demographic factors

What to be included?

Ask yourself:

What is important?
What might be important?

Basic demographic information in an individual-level of study:


i) Gender / Sex
ii) Age
iii) Ethnicity
iv) Educational level
v) Income or allowance

What else?

The option must be:


Comprehensive “ All must be able to choose an option to represent them
Mutually exclusive “ No one can select more than one option

The range of the option:


Do not allow most of your respondents to fall into the same range
Too narrow range might require many options to capture all the respondents
Too broad range might make not be sensitive and make most of your respondents fall into
same category.
Cover letter

Important information:
- Introduce yourself and your study
- Why to carry up the study: is to fulfill the requirement of your course
- Purpose of the study
- What is the benefit of the study
- Statement on the confidentiality and anonymity of the of the respondents, if you protect
it
- Remind the respondents over their participation is volunteered and they have the right to
withdraw from the study without reason
- Tell the respondents who they can contact if they have any doubt “ yourself, your
supervisor and consider the Dean of the Faculty.
- Your signature and your full name
