LAB ACTIVITIES: COMPUTER SYSTEM (HARDWARE, SOFTWARE)
ACTIVITY 01: DISASSEMBLE COMPUTER SYSTEM UNIT
To save time and ensure efficiency, the lab instructor will demonstrate how to disassemble
the computer system unit and identify related internal components. Follow these step-by-step
instructions to observe the procedure and identify the components.
1. Power Down the Computer: Ensure the computer is entirely powered off by shutting
down the operating system and disconnecting the power cable from the electrical
outlet.
2. Remove External Connections: Disconnect all external cables and peripherals from
the computer, including the power cable, monitor cable, keyboard, mouse, USB
devices, and other connected devices.
3. Open the desktop Computer Case to see the internal components
4. Identify all cables connected to the motherboard, drives, and other components
(disconnect them)
5. Identify the expansion cards, such as graphics cards, sound cards, or network cards,
attached to the system unit.
6. Identify the Memory Modules (RAM): carefully remove the RAM modules by gently
pulling them straight out of their slots.
7. Disconnect any cables (SATA, power) attached to hard drives, solid-state drives
(SSDs), or optical drives. Identify which hard drive is used in the computer.
8. Identify front panel connectors from the motherboard (power button, LEDs, USB
ports).
9. Explain the function of each identified component of the system unit.
