Title: A Brief Overview of My Community Service at Ant Cham Construction Company
I am writing this report to provide an update on my community service assignment completed during
the holiday vacation. I had the opportunity to carry out my community service at Ant Cham Construction
Company, located in Kuwadzana Extension. Ant Cham Construction is involved in construction, civil
works, maintenance, and various technical services. Compared to other companies, Ant Cham is a
medium-sized company that has been operating for 10 years. Over the years, it has grown from a small
team offering limited services to employing dozens of staff and providing a wide range of services. The
company is led by a director who oversees several departments, including construction, maintenance,
finance, human resources, and marketing.
During my time at the company, I worked in the marketing department as a clerk assistant. My primary
duties included writing and issuing receipts to customers. On some occasions, I also assisted as a
receptionist, gathering clients' information, such as their location, the date of their visit, and their
service requirements. I maintained a record book to track client details and took bookings for clients
who preferred to collect their services in person rather than opting for company delivery. Additionally,
as part of my community service, I contributed to maintaining the cleanliness of the company premises.
I picked up litter, emptied bins, and swept pathways to ensure the company's environment remained
neat and welcoming.
My community service at Ant Cham Construction brought about positive changes. One significant impact
was that I introduced the idea of regularly recounting and rechecking the company’s supplies to ensure
they met demand, which helped reduce losses. I also noticed a positive shift in the receptionist's attitude
towards customers. Initially, he was somewhat reluctant, spending more time on his phone than
attending to clients. Over time, he learned to be more cheerful and attentive, realizing that "the
customer is always right." This shift in attitude made a difference, and clients responded positively,
resulting in an increase in visits to the company during the vacation period.
Furthermore, my 60-hour community service contributed to instilling a stronger work ethic among the
staff. I made it a point to arrive early each day, often before the clients or director, which encouraged a
culture of punctuality. By the end of my service, no one was arriving late for work. My efforts also
improved the overall cleanliness of the company grounds, with litter being picked up every day.
Additionally, I promoted a sense of camaraderie among employees, fostering a welcoming and
collaborative environment.
Working with the staff and management helped me develop valuable skills such as teamwork, task
management, and effective communication. I interacted with various departments, gathered
information from the manager, and analyzed receipt books and ledger cards, which improved my
reading and writing skills. Managing my time between home responsibilities and work also enhanced my
organizational abilities. Furthermore, the experience improved my attention to detail, as being a clerk
required accuracy to avoid any mistakes that could cause problems in the workplace.
Although I encountered some challenges, such as a few employees perceiving my presence as a threat
to their positions, I handled these situations professionally. Despite initial misunderstandings, I
remained focused on my duties and worked hard to gain the trust and respect of my colleagues.
In conclusion, my community service at Ant Cham Construction was a rewarding experience. Not only
did I develop new skills and enhance existing ones, but I also contributed to the betterment of the
company and its employees. Community service is important both for personal growth and for making a
positive impact on others. It taught me that work is not always about financial gain, but about serving
others and contributing to the greater good.
