Topic 8: Some young people like eating out every day to save time. Others enjoy cooking at
home. Which one do you prefer?
In my opinion, cooking at home is preferable to eating out because it benefits health, saves time
and strengthens family bonds. Firstly, cooking at home can boost our health due to the fact that
we can control the ingredients, ensuring meals are balanced and nutritious. For example, a
typical Vietnamese homemade meal such as rice with stir-vegetables, soup, and lean meat often
provides more fiber and vital nutrients. In contrast, restaurant food, especially fast food, tend to
contains unhealthy additives and excessive fat, which can lead us to obesity and other health
problems. Secondly, cooking at home can save money. Eating out frequently, particularly in
trendy cafés or restaurants, can be costly. For instance, a bowl of Pho in a well-known restaurant
can cost more than 50.000-80.000 VND, while cooking it at home for a family can be half the
price with fresher ingredients and larger portions. Some may argue that eating out is faster and
more convenient, especially for young people with busy schedules. It’s true that restaurants offer
ready-to-eat meals without the need for preparation or cleanup. However, with morden kitchen
appliances like air-fryers and electric pressure cookers, commonly found in many Vietnamese
households, cooking has become quicker and easier. Pre-prepped ingredients, stored in fridge,
make it possible to whip up a quick and tasty meal without worrying about traffic jams or long
waits at crowded restaurants, specifically during rush hours in metropolises such as Ha Noi or
Ho Chi Minh. Finally, home cooking strengthens family bonds. When all family members
preparing meals together creates an unforgettable and meaningful experience, giving them a
chance to communicate, collaborate, and enjoy each other’s company. This sense of togetherness
is something restaurants can rarely offer. In conclusion, cooking at home is not only healthier and
more economical but also a great way to bring families closer.
