Dear sir/madam,
I, Sehrish Mumtaz, am applying for national visa-service type: study, to study in Genova, Italy. I
have secured admission in Master of Architectural Composition at university of Genova, Italy.
In recent years, the architectural world has rapidly integrated with modernism. In Pakistan,
people have been living in buildings with the modernistic approach, but in long term it doesn’t
work because our culture does not resonate with the buildings, we live in. Along with that, the
structures built long ago are more sustainable and stand still after several years than the
architectures built in the modern era. On the other hand, Italy is famously known for its
traditional architecture, preserving the cultural heritage. I started my career as a junior architect
working for an American client, designing a commercial building at Texas. It helped me learn
design strategies, structural analysis and reflecting cultural aspects in architecture despite of
being located in one of the modern cities of the world.
At present, I am working as a junior architect at the unique consultants, Hyderabad. While
working in such a fast-paced and diverse environment, I have encountered with several
unforeseen challenges. I can handle the contemporary residential buildings but when it comes to
developing designing buildings reflecting cultural aspects of people who are coming from
different traditions and rural backgrounds, I find it hard to achieve the desired result these
challenges are keeping me from achieving my professional goals. In addition to that, I want the
buildings in Pakistan to be more sustainable and have a long life. Therefore, after careful
considerations, I feel that the next logical destination on my career path is a master’s in
architectural composition at University of Genova, Italy.
The curriculum of Architectural composition at University of Genova, Italy is according to my
professional needs and yet it is much more challenging. The modules urban design, historical
disciplines, structural analysis, sustainability techniques and cost estimation will equip me with
all the required tools, techniques and strategies to flourish in the architectural world.
I chose the University of Genova for several reasons. To begin with, University of Genova offers
an English language master’s in architectural composition, globally recognized by European
association for architectural education. University of Genova also prepares students to enter the
world of international firms. In addition to that, it provides national and international internship
opportunities for their students in the second semester of masters. Furthermore, it is one of the
leading graduate schools in Italy, it has an outstanding national and international ranking,
internationally qualified faculty, and an excellent quality of education. Moreover, it is also a
diverse place with more than 3000 international students coming from 110 different nationalities
which presents a great opportunity to learn from intercultural exchange of experience.
After the completion of my studies at the University of Genova. I see my role as an architect,
who develop structures based on the knowledge and experience gained at university of Genova
and a trainer who trains the upcoming generation about the planning and construction strategies
built outside Pakistan.
I am fully aware of the demands and challenges I will face during my studies in Italy, but my
enthusiasm, maturity and strong determination prepared me to go extra-mile to accomplish my
educational goals. I am prepared to work very hard to achieve my future objectives. I humbly
request you to grant my visa and give me a chance to move a step forward achieving my
professional goals. Lastly, I owe immense gratitude for your precious time reviewing my letter of
motivation.
