Nowadays celebrities are more famous for their glamour

and wealth than for their achievements, and this sets a

bad example to young people.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this

statement?

One of the most conspicous phenomena in the 21 st century is that famous

influencers are better known for their glamour and material values rather than their
accomplishments. There is a widespread worry that this will lead to a negative
model for young generation. In my opinion, while this trend exerts a detrimental
impact on young people, it also brings several benefits.
First and foremost, this trend plays an essential role in cementing young
people’s motivation. This can be attributed to the fundamental human desire to
continually enhance living conditions and foster personal development, thus when
being exposed to ideal models, they are motivated to strive to become a better
version of themselves. Another striking point is that celebrities can use their
financial resource for philanthropic efforts. Thanks to their fame, they are able to
raise substantial funds for those in need. Additionally, there is no room for doubt
that influencers can boost sales of some of the products they represent so that they
indirectly contribute to economic growth. Due to their impact, their fans are more
likely to consume those goods instead of similar products as a way to support their
idols.
On the other hand, the drawbacks still persist. A fundamental argument in
this discussion is that celebrities who are known for their glamour and material
value, can spread a lavish lifestyle and materialistic mindset to young people, since
the young generation have troubles with differentiating positive and negative
influences and is easily swayed by others. Not only that, but this phenomenon can
lead the young people to misunderstand the beauty and success. Rather than
developing skills and working hard towards real achievements, some young
individuals put their attention to superficial appearances, believing that this is the
key to success.
In the light of the facts above, one can subscribe to the notion (opinion) that
this trend poses both opportunities and challenges to the young generation.
Whether it is beneficial or not depends on the way young people perceive it.

Perceiving success through the lens of superficial appearances can lead young individuals to prioritize careers and goals that emphasize wealth and glamour over skill development and genuine achievements . This mindset might discourage them from pursuing hard work-based ambitions, misleading them into believing superficial aspects are more important for success, potentially limiting their long-term growth and satisfaction .

Young people face challenges in distinguishing positive from negative influences due to their susceptibility to external appearances and the promotion of materialistic values by celebrity culture . These challenges can be addressed by educating young individuals on critical thinking and media literacy, enabling them to analyze and question the authenticity of celebrity portrayals critically. Encouraging young people to focus on personal achievements and values rather than external appearances can also help mitigate these influences .

The glamorization of celebrities' wealth and lifestyle can motivate young people by showcasing an ideal model which they may aspire to emulate. This exposure can enhance their desire for personal development and better living conditions . However, it can also mislead them into valuing superficial appearances and material wealth as the primary keys to success, rather than hard work and genuine achievements .

Celebrities can leverage their fame and financial resources to engage in philanthropic efforts, raising substantial funds for charitable causes . Their influence can mobilize their fan base to support these initiatives, potentially resulting in significant contributions to those in need and fostering a culture of giving . This can also enhance their public image and encourage their fans to participate in similar acts of giving, creating a ripple effect in society.

Celebrities can significantly influence the economic behavior of their followers by endorsing products that their fans then prefer to purchase. This endorsement effect can stimulate product sales and contribute to economic growth as fans buy these endorsed goods to support their idols and emulate their lifestyles . However, this influence also promotes a materialistic mindset as it encourages purchasing behavior driven more by celebrity approval than product value or necessity .

The statement acknowledges that celebrities can contribute to economic growth by leveraging their influence to boost sales of the products they endorse . Their fans are inclined to buy products associated with them, driving demand and indirectly stimulating the economy. However, this economic growth is tied to a celebrity-centric consumer culture that may prioritize consumption over savings and sustainable economic practices. Additionally, the focus on celebrity-endorsed products could overshadow equally or more valuable non-endorsed goods .

Exposure to ideal models provided by celebrities can inspire young people to strive for self-improvement by motivating them to emulate qualities they admire, such as drive and determination . These role models can cement the desire to enhance living conditions and personal development, encouraging young people to become better versions of themselves by setting higher personal goals and pursuing them .

Celebrity culture plays a dual role in shaping the values and behaviors of young individuals. On one hand, it provides positive role models that can motivate personal development and aspirations for better living conditions . On the other hand, it can perpetuate a materialistic and superficial understanding of success, focusing on appearance and wealth rather than meaningful achievements. Young people, due to their vulnerability to influences, might struggle between these contrasting messages, impacting their value system and life choices .

Idolizing celebrities known for glamour and wealth can lead young people to develop a lavish lifestyle and a materialistic mindset. This can cause them to prioritize superficial appearances and material success over genuine achievements and skill development . Additionally, it can result in a misunderstanding of beauty and success, diverting focus from hard work and personal growth to achieving a similar glamorous lifestyle .

Celebrities play a significant role in shaping the consumer behavior of young individuals through endorsements and association with various products. Fans often emulate their purchasing patterns, opting for endorsed products, which can inflate demand and drive sales for those goods. This not only contributes to economic growth by boosting particular industries but also encourages a consumption-driven economy, potentially leading to a culture where material possessions are overly valued .
