Stress Analysis 2 Due by 31st of March
Homework #2 Stress of thin-walled and curved beams
Please provide details in all steps of hand calculations for full credit.
[1] A machine component has a T-shaped cross section
that is orientated as shown. Knowing that M = 2.5 kN
m, determine the stress at (a) point A, (b) point B.
[2] Knowing that P 10 kN, determine the stress at (a)
point A, (b) point B.
[3] The Cross section shown is subjected to a torque 𝑇 = 900 𝑁 𝑚. Determine the maximum
shear stress in the cross section and the angle of twist of the cross section. The shear modulus of
the thin-walled beam is 𝐺 = 28 𝐺𝑃𝑎.

[4] The Cross section shown is subjected to a torque 𝑇 = 15 𝑘𝑁 𝑚. Determine the maximum
shear stress in the cross section and the angle of twist of the cross section. The shear modulus of
the thin-walled beam is 𝐺 = 80 𝐺𝑃𝑎.
