Deployment Options

The document outlines various deployment options for SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), including decentralized and embedded configurations within S/4HANA, as well as cloud, on-premise, and hybrid solutions. It emphasizes the importance of system sizing and integration methods, such as the use of the Quicksizer tool and Remote Function Calls (RFC) for data transfer. Additionally, it provides detailed paths for setting up the necessary configurations in the SAP system landscape.

DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS

SAP EWM Deployment Options Best Practices provides some hints on the
various different decision criteria. The embedded EWM in S/4HANA is
similar to EWM-on-ERP. One of the important decision criteria is the
system sizing. SAP offers a Quicksizer tool which also provides a ‘HANA
version’ of Quick Sizing. Within the HANA Version of the Quick Sizer Tool
you

1. ECC - DECENTRALIZED:

Definition: In a decentralized ECC deployment, the ECC component is

distributed across multiple servers or systems, each responsible for a
specific warehouse or group of warehouses.

Characteristics:
Multiple ECC instances, each managing a separate warehouse or group
Decentralized control and monitoring of warehouse operations
Each ECC instance communicates with the central SAP EWM system.

2. S4 – EMBEDDED.

Technically, the simplified integration of the embedded EWM within the on-premise edition
of S/4HANA is reached by the adoption of a unified data model (that is, new product code
line). The goal is to simplify the data model as much as possible. The major simplifications
are as follows

Core Interface is not used any more for master data including a business partner, material
master and batch.

Redundant customizing tables are eliminated.

 Direct read of actual data in SAP S/4HANA is realized instead of replication, for example,
material values, accounting objects, purchase orders, production orders, etc..

3. S4 – DECENTRALIZED
 Decentralized EWM on S/4HANA 1909 can be interfaced with ERP, either with ECC 6.0
Ehp 3 (or higher) or S/4HANA 1610 (or higher)

There are some differences in transfer of master data from ERP to new decentralized
EWM on S/4HANA as captured in below image. In present (or classic) decentralized EWM
on SCM, master data (Material, customer, vendor etc) is transferred to decentralized
EWM through Core Interface (CIF), however ALE / IDOC or web service needs to be used
to transfer material, batch, customer, vendor etc. However same CIF is to be used to
transfer Packaging instruction.

4. CLOUD/ ON-PREMISE/ HYBRID:

 Warehouse management capabilities in SAP S/4HANA Cloud enable you to manage stock
on the storage-bin level for better visibility and control in your warehouse and with tight
integration to your business processes.

Benefits:
 Control and record all movements within your warehouse –from goods receipt to goods
issue
 Map your warehouse complex in the system –down to a storage-bin level
 Extend the scope of SAP S/4HANA Cloud core processes with warehouse management
capabilities
Increase visibility and control in warehouse processes

Hybrid Computing:
 hybrid computing, the combination of cloud and on-premise deployments, is enabling a
global, mobile workforce to meet the demands of millions of new consumers, who
increasingly want everything personalized
On- Premise:
The space of enterprise computing for HR can be seen as being composed of two worlds. At the base, we
have the on-premise world, composed of on-premise talent management and on-premise core HR. At the
heights, we have the full-cloud world composed of cloud talent management and cloud core HR. Each of the
two worlds has strong advantages. Cloud deployment is usually easier and cheaper, and the user experience
is usually superior. However, on-premise solutions are better established, functionally more complete,
especially for such core components as payroll or organization management. Hybrids combine the best of
both worlds to allow customers to build on their foundations and deploy the processes that are really going
to make a difference: strategic talent management an d strategic analytics
