ABSTRACTION
What is analogy?
An analogy is a comparison in which two words
pairs (four words total) are paired together through some (Students will listen)
types of relationships or relating factors.
It is a statement of comparison between two different
things, ideas, or concepts, what makes analogies so
effective is their ability to get some to think critically.
There are several primary categories of relationship
used in forming analogies:
1. Function - it can be an activity or purpose
intended for a thing or a person to do. This relationship is
based on the way something operates or is used.
Example:
Performer : Action :: Painter: paint.
The performer will do some actions on stage in front
of a crowd. The same explanation it is with the painter
whose job is to do the painting.
2. Degree- the extent of which something happens.
This relationship shows the greater or lesser amount of
intensities of action.
Example:
Warm : Hot :: Cols : Freezing
3. Characteristics - a quality typical to a person or
thing. This indicates the features which are known to be
true to a certain object, person, animals or ideas.
Example:
Bird : Air :: Fish : Water

4. Part to whole - a fraction that represents a whole.
This explains all part of a certain object or even in a
human being are all important. Each of this parts plays an
important role to make the whole thing functional.
Example:
Fin : Fish :: Wing : Bird
5. Antonyms/Synonyms - Pairs that shows an
opposite or similar relationship. This can be very
important to develop our vocabulary skills. The
knowledge of antonyms or words with opposite meaning
and of antonyms or words with same or similar meaning
will help specifically in doing writing activities.
Example:
Empty : Full :: Awkward : Graceful
6. Classification - identify something into its
category. It will help us to put together words, objects, or
ideas that belong to the same group or of the same
general identification.
Example:
Ballet : Dance :: Frog : Amphibian
Analogy plays a significant role in solving problem,
making decisions, reasoning in arguments, expressing
perceptions, making generalizations and many more.

of words?
