Weekly Activity – 4 (Entity Relationship Modelling)

Activity Instructions and Submission Guidelines


Important 1. Participation in weekly classes and tutorials is essential to discover, discuss
Notes and develop the requirements.

2. SISTC takes academic integrity very seriously. Any material used in this
assignment that is not your original work must be acknowledged as such
and appropriately referenced. Do not copy and paste from the internet or
use AI tools for this activity.
Marking 1. Your work will be assessed on the following criteria:
Criteria
• The accuracy of the answer (50%)
• The consistency in the answer (30%)
• The level of the communication (20%)
2. This assessment is worth 3% of your overall subject mark.

3. Marks will be deducted for late submission and failing to submit your draft
submission.
Specific 1. Your answers to all questions combined should be between 500 and 600
Requirements words.
2. You must correctly use the APA7 style of referencing, and include in-text
citations when quoting, referring to, summarising, or paraphrasing from
any source.
Submission 1. You must submit the drafted activity during the tutorials on the provided
Moodle link. This drafted work will not be assessed unless you submit
your completed work.
2. Failing to submit drafted activity during the class will apply a penalty.
3. You must complete this activity by Sunday 11.00 pm on the same week
and submit on the same link provided on the Moodle.
4. When uploading your activity, name your file using the following syntax:
[WeekNumber]_[Student Surname]_[IDnumber].doc (or ‘.docx’)
For example, ‘Week2_Barry_123456789.doc’.
You will be assessed individually.
Extensions 1. All requests for extensions should be supported by appropriate evidence
(e.g., a medical certificate in the case of ill health)

2. Discuss the difference between a composite key and a composite attribute. How would each be
indicated in an ERD?

3. The local city youth league needs a database system to help track children that sign up to play
soccer. Data needs to be kept on each team and the children that will be playing on each team
and their parents. Also, data needs to be kept on the coaches for each team. Draw the data
model described below.
Entities required:

• Team
• Player
• Coach
• Parent

Attributes required:

• Team: Team ID number, Team name, and Team colors.


• Player: Player ID number, Player first name, Player last name, and Player age.
• Coach: Coach ID number, Coach first name, Coach last name, and Coach Home
phone number.
• Parent: Parent ID number, Parent last name, Parent first name, Home phone
number, and Home Address (Street, City, State, and ZIP Code).

The following relationships must be defined:

• Team is related to Player.


• Team is related to Coach.
• Player is related to Parent.
Connectivity and participations are defined as follows:

• A Team may or may not have a Player.


• A Player must have a Team.
• A Team may have many Players.
• A Player has only one Team.
• A Team may or may not have a Coach.
• A Coach must have a Team.
• A Team may have many Coaches.
• A Coach has only one Team.
