INTRODUCTION
An organization is one of the important elements of the management process and next to planning.
It is like a nucleus of a cell around which the human efforts revolve to achieve the objectives.
A sound organization essentially conducts all managerial activities efficiently and effectively.
The success of the management is determined by its sound organization.
DEFINING ORGANIZATION
Many authors defined the term “Organization” various ways as given below:
An organization constitutes an identifiable group of people contributing their efforts towards the attainment of
goals.

The organization comprises a group of people cooperating under the leadership for the accomplishment of a
common end.

ORGANIZATION CHARTS
An organization chart is a simple diagrammatic method of n; describing an organization structure.
Daniel C. McCallum was the first who introduced organization chart in 1855.
This chart is like a blueprint of a building. It indicates s. departments, formal relationship, and relative
ranks of its positions, a chain of command, and communication. It is the link between departments by
authority and responsibility.
The organization charts usually have boxes with titles which represent various positions or levels in the
organization; the distance of the box from the top indicates its place in the hierarchy and lines joining
the different ranks represent the formal reporting relationship between superiors and subordinates.
FEATURES OF ORGANIZATION CHART
The features of organization chart are as follows:
It has a diagrammatical presentation.
It represents the formal organization structure.
It shows the lines of authority and a formal relationship in the organization.
It indicates the channel of communication and department linkages.

1. Hierarchical charts indicate the formal structure of an organization.
The vertically placed boxes represent the ranks; horizontally placed boxes represent the
departments or level.
The boxes may vary in size; the top position managers may have a big size box than their
subordinates.
The same levels generally have boxes of similar size. Laterally placed boxes indicate a
relationship between departments on the same level of hierarchy in the organization.
2. Matrix chart depicts the same level employees in a group reporting to their respective manager. It
has two axes representing two chains of command. The vertical axis represents functional/hierarchy
structure, the horizontal axis represents the group of people of different technical departments.
3. The flat chart has few or no horizontal layers/lines. may depict only top- and lower-level managers
applicable only in small or individual unit organizations.
4. Horizontal chart has a pyramid shape, that is, narrow at the top and broad at the bottom.
5. Circular chart depicts top management at the centre of the circle and other management levels in
concentric circles.

Organizational Structure of a Hospital
Organizational Structure refers to levels of management within a hospital.
Levels allow efficient management of hospital departments.
The structure helps one understand the hospital‟s chain of command.
Organizational structure varies from hospital to hospital.
Large hospitals have complex organizational structures.
Smaller hospitals tend to have much simpler organizational structures.
Grouping of Hospital Departments Within the Structure:
Hospital departments are grouped in order to promote efficiency of facility.
Grouping is generally done according to similarity of duties.

ADVANTAGERS OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
The list below shows the advantages of organization chart:
1. It brings clarity about organization structure both to the employees and outsiders.
2. It serves as a quick method of visualizing an organization.
3. It is useful in familiarizing and training new employees.
4. It provides particular departmental information to use in planning and budgeting purposes.
5. It provides an effective way to communicate organizational and employee's information.
6. It is an invaluable management tool, allows to organize the teams with clear responsibilities,
titles, and lines of authority.
LIMITATIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
Organization chart also has some limitations, which are as follows:
1. It provides a static structure of the organization.
2. It lacks in giving details of organization structure.
3. It limits to show only formal relationships and channels of communication.
4. It requires in revealing social relations and the managerial styles.
5. It leads to rank consciousness among the staff and destroys team
CONCLUSION
An organizational chart is a crucial tool for structuring and managing an organization effectively. It
visually represents the hierarchy, roles, and relationships within a company, enabling clear
communication and efficient workflow. By outlining responsibilities and reporting structures, it helps
employees understand their positions and fosters better coordination.
