pandemic by instituting various strict health protocols. Global economy has

Doctors have pleaded the President to put the Metro back on MECQ. Selected
areas were locked down, public transport was canceled, some business
establishments were closed and only people with quarantine pass can go
outside the house. These were just some of the protocols set by the government
to lower the cases of Covid, flatten the curve and finally stop this pandemic.

What’s In
Last time, we learned that a paragraph is composed of
sentences conveying one thought or idea. We also learned a
paragraph has parts.
Paragraphs are written for different purposes. Some of these
are to tell a story, inform, enumerate and present problem and
solution. Paragraphs can also be referred to as texts.
In this week’s lesson, we will learn to identify the different
kinds of texts and note details from them.
Noting details is one skill we need to develop and improve.
This will help us easily comprehend and enjoy . the texts we are
reading.

Puto Business
Mama put the small puto molders in the steamer. It was 5 in
the morning and still dark outside. “Ma, how many pieces of puto
have we cooked so far?’ Nonoy asked his mother.
“Not enough for today’s order Noy,” his mother replied
smiling as she fills the boxes with dozen puto each.
“Wow! Our small puto business is growing, maybe we can
continue this even after the pandemic’” Papa said a he prepares
his protective gear. He’ll be out soon delivering their home-made
puto to their customers.
Nonoy still remembers how this small business started.
Ever since Mrs. Reyes lost her job in the nail spa, they had to
find a way to earn extra income. Their father who used to be a
factory worker in Dubai had to go home because of the pandemic.
“We need to be productive,” Mr. Reyes said back them. “We,
can’t just rely on SAP.”
“My mother taught me a [Link] use to sell puto when we
were kids,” Mrs. Reyes said. “Maybe we could make some and sell
it to our neighbors!” she continued excitedly.
“Or we can post it online, then accept orders!” Nonoy
suggested beaming.
“We can all help Mama!” the Nonoy’s other siblings said with
excitement.
So there it began, the Reyes’ puto business. They don’t mind
waking up really early and not playing with their gadgets all day.
They need to keep this business going. Strike while the iron is hot.

The story we just read is an example of a narrative text.
A narrative text uses a story structure that includes story
elements such as setting, characters, and plot; beginning,
problem/conflict; climax and resolution.
The place where and the story happened were not stated in
the story. But we can guess that it happened in the home of the
Reyes family. It happened one morning.
The time and place where the story happened is called the
setting of the story.

They are called the characters in the story. Characters can
be persons, animals or things that perform the actions and speak
the dialog, moving the story along the plot line.

story. Plot is the sequence of events that make up a story. It is
how the story develop, unfolds and moves in time. Plot is

To note details of a narrative text we need to read the text
carefully. We can answer questions related to the story by
analyzing the text. Some answers can be found in the text while

some are implied or not directly written in the story. During this
time we need to have critical thinking skills.
We can also ask questions to get important details from the
story. Some answers can be found in the text, while some can be
answered based on our own experience or our background

He was also very smart so the King of Persia, King Darius, made
him an important leader in the kingdom. The other leaders in the
kingdom did not like that Daniel is above them because he was a
captive from Israel and he wasn’t a Persian
These leaders found a way to make King Darius punish
Daniel. They tricked the King into passing a law; the law said
that everyone had to pray to King Darius and no other god or they
will be thrown in jail.
Daniel, being a Godly man prayed everyday and he
continued to do so from his window even after the law was
passed. Daniel was caught praying to God so they threw him into
a den of hungry lions!

Because budget is limited and yet you still want to
enjoy a nice tour in one of he cities in Metro Manila, we
offer you a one-day Marikina City Tour.
If you think Marikina is only popular for being the shoe
capital of the country, think again. There is definitely more
that this City can offer. Some of these, you can enjoy in a
day tour of the city.
To start this tour, you can jog around and breathe in
fresh air at the Marikina Sports Center.
Since, you have burned some calories, let’s eat goto
perfectly paired with a plate of tokwa’t baboy at Macky’s.
The good news is that the next destination in our
itinerary is just a few meters away, Parish of the Lady of the
Abandoned. This church is a very popular venue for
weddings because of its aesthetics.
Just across it is Cafe Kapitan, a 200-year old home of
Don Laureano Guevarra, the founder of Marikina Shoe
industry. Its picturesque facade made it popular location
for pictorials. The city has preserved its stylish interior.
Once you’ve had your fill of the sumptuous meals at Cafe
Kapitan you can rest a while then start walking a few meters
to the Shoe Museum. This museum holds the collection of
Imelda Marcos’ shoes.
Before the day ends, you can either go to Lilac Street
and choose among the lines of restos in the area or you can
enjoy a picnic by the river at RiverBanks Ampitheater. You
can have your meals cooked at the lines of small retaurants
there. The breeze will relax your body as you lay on the grass
and watch the stars on a cloudless night sky. Well, tomorrow

To identify a problem-solution type of text, you need to read
carefully. Look for a problem or an issue that is presented in the
text. The problem statement is found at the beginning or first part
of the text. Solutions can be found at the body of the text. It uses
signal words like: so that, because, since and in order to.
The text also described some popular tourist spot in
Marikina.

ASSIGNMENT How to Purify Cloudy Water
Boiling is perhaps the safest way to purify cloudy water. You
will need a boiling pot, fire, salt, a coffee filter or cloth, charcoal and
cotton. First, prefilter the cloudy water with a cotton filter or folded
cloth. Then, boil the filtered water. Add a small amount of salt to
improve the taste of water as it it boiling. Meanwhile, make a cotton
and charcoal filter by crushing the charcoal and putting it in the
cotton as trap. This will remove the impurities and some bad taste
from the boiled water. Finally, filter the boiled water through the
cotton trap.

Robonauts
Robonauts are machines. They can do some things that people
do. They can do some things that people cannot. Robonauts do not
have to eat. They do not have to drink. They do not get lonely.
Robots can do the same things over and over exactly the same
way. They do not get bored. They do not get tired. And best of all,
robots can do things that are too dangerous for people to do.
A robonaut looks a lot like a person. It has head, arms, and
upper body. A robonaut may go outside the International Space
Station. It may work with astronauts on spacewalks. It may go
where it is not safe for humans.

In order to slow down the transmission of the virus and help
the frontliners, selected cities and municipalities should be placed
under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine or MECQ. This
ordinance will prohibit senior citizens and minors from going out of
the house. Only essential workers and those with quarantine pass
can go out to buy or run errands for their family. If there is lesser
number of people outside, the rate of spreading the virus becomes
slower.

The people were encouraged to plant more trees and other plants in
their yards in order that air around would be cleaner.

Passage B
Here is a fast recipe for a special mashed sweet potato
treat. Begin with peeling two large sweet potatoes and cooking
them in a pot of boiling water. When a fork or knife inserted
into them pulls out easily, you will know they are done. Then
take them form the pot and drain them well. Next, place them
in a large mixing bowl and add two tablespoons of butter.
Mash with a potato masher until the lumps are gone.
Meanwhile, in a skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter and add a
bunch of chopped green onions. Cook them for about one
minute and mix the mash. Then add more butter if desired.
Serve and eat.

A. The scaly anteater or balikon is an unusual animal. It has
small eyes, a long snout, a small mouth, and a long tongue. What
makes this animal unusual is its coat of very thick scales. To protect
itself, the balikon curls up into a very tight ball. Then it rolls away
from its enemy until a rock or tree stops it.

Digestive process begins when the food enters the mouth. After the food is
chewed, it is swallowed and goes to the throat and then travels to the esophagus or
swallowing tube. Next, the food is delivered to the stomach which serves as the
stomach tank. Then, the food enters the small intestine wherein 90% of the nutrients
have been extracted and absorbed by the body. The remaining goes to the large
intestine as waste product. Finally, this waste product is excreted from the body as
solid matter called stool.

The atmosphere is composed of different levels. The first level called
troposphere, is nearest to the earth, about 11 km. thick. Next is stratosphere
which is about 11-48 km above the Earth’s surface. The mesosphere is above the
stratosphere in which the temperature decreases with altitude. The fourth layer is
the thermosphere which starts at about 55 km. The temperature is so hot that it
cannot be measured by a thermometer. The second to the last is the exosphere.
Finally, the ionosphere overlaps the other layers from above the earth. All in all,
there are six levels of the atmosphere.

Because of the pandemic, face to face instruction is not allowed in all
schools. In order to continue the delivery of quality education in the country,
DepEd introduced various learning modalities which include; modular, online and
blended learning. Modules will be distributed to students. With the help of
parents and guardians, students will answer these modules at home. In case
they do not understand the lesson, they can call or text their teachers. In online
learning, the pupils will attend online classes at a specific schedule. They will
also answer and submit online activities. In blended learning different learning
modalities can be used. Also, radio and TV broadcast of the lessons will help
ensure that learning continues in the country despite the pandemic.
