5 days longer than Olivia. How many days does it take Olivia to do the work alone?
4. The mass of a mixture A of beans and maize is 72kg. The ratio of beans to maize is 3:5
respectively.
(a) Find the mass of maize in the mixture. (1mk)
(b) A second mixture B of beans and maize of mass 98kg is mixed with A. The final ratio of
beans to maize is 8:9 respectively. Find the ratio of maize to beans in B.

5. The cash price of a T.V set is Ksh. 26,000. Jeremy bought the set on hire purchase terms by
paying a deposit of Ksh. 6,000 and the balance by 24 equal monthly installments of Khs.
1,045.30. Find the compound rate of interest per year.
6. Simplify and rationalize the expression leaving your answer surds.

8. A quantity y is partly constant and partly varies inversely as the square of x. The quantity
y=7 when x=10 and y=5½ when x=20. Find the value of y when x=18.
9. Find the radius and centre of the circle whose equation is
3x2 + 3y2 – 12x + 18y – 9 = 0
10. a) Expand (2 – 1/5 x)5
b) Hence use the expansion to find the value of (1.96)5 correct to 3 decimal places.

11. Solve the equation 4 cos2 x + 4 sin x – 5 = 0, for 0° ≤ x ≤ 360°
