output. It consists of:

 Hardware: Physical parts of a computer such as the monitor,

keyboard, mouse, CPU, and storage devices.
 Software: Programs that run on a computer, categorized into:
o System software (e.g., Operating Systems like Windows and
macOS)
o Application software (e.g., Microsoft Word, web browsers)

3. Computer Components

A. Hardware Components

1. Input Devices – Used to enter data into the computer. Examples:

o Keyboard – For typing text and commands.
o Mouse – A pointing device to interact with the screen.
o Scanner – Converts physical documents into digital format.
o Microphone – Captures sound for storage or
communication.
2. Output Devices – Display or produce results from the computer.
Examples:
o Monitor – Displays visual information.
o Printer – Produces hard copies of documents.
o Speakers – Output sound from the computer.
3. Storage Devices – Used to store data. Examples:
o Hard Drive (HDD/SSD) – Stores operating system,
programs, and files.
o USB Flash Drive – A portable storage device.
4. Processing Unit
o Central Processing Unit (CPU) – The "brain" of the
computer, responsible for executing instructions.
o RAM (Random Access Memory) – Temporary memory that
helps in fast processing.

4. Software Types

1. System Software – Manages computer hardware and software.

Examples:
o Operating System (OS) – Windows, macOS, Linux.
o Utility Programs – Antivirus, disk cleanup tools.

o Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – Used for
documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
o Web Browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) – Access the
internet.

5. Input & Output Devices

Some devices can function as both input and output devices:

 Touchscreen – Acts as both a display (output) and a control

interface (input).
 USB Drives – Can store and retrieve data.
 Headphones with Microphone – Outputs sound and records
voice.

6. Operating Systems (OS)

An OS is software that manages computer hardware and software.
