Values can be defined as basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate one’s attitudes or
actions. They help to determine what is important to us and guide us about the personal qualities
we choose to perform certain actions and decisions we take; the sort of person we want to be; the
manner in which we treat ourselves and others, and our interaction with the world around us.
Simply put, they provide the general guidelines for conduct.

1. What are values according to you? Jot down ​five ​values that you consider most important
for your ownself.

Values are the rules that govern our path in a social and moral life. They help us become
cultured and civilized .They teach us to differentiate between right and [Link]

frame an individual’s character.

Five values that I consider most important for my ownself are:

● Honesty
● Brotherhood
● Openness
● Generosity
● Forgiveness

2. Find out the speakers of the following maxims and discuss the context in which these are told.

a. ​“Values are like fingerprints. Nobody’s are the same but you leave them all over
everything you do.”

Elvis Presley gave these lines.

These lines mean that whatever we do are the result of the values we have [Link]
are compared to fingerprints that are unique to each [Link] values are
unique and guide our actions.

b. “Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one’s
values.”

It is given by Ayn Rand.

It signifies that values provide us with happiness which is the ultimate goal of our actions .

Happiness describes that we have achieved our aim and it gets possible by values.
c. “Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life because you become what you
believe.”
Oprah Winfrey gave these lines.
They tell us to be ambitious and dream big because the greater the dream ,the harder you work.
As a result , your character evolves and becomes even more sophisticated.

d. “Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.”
The lines are given by Theodore Roosevelt.
These words signify that one should aim high and strive hard but must not forget the ground
[Link] dreaming big,one should be humble as [Link] need to maintain a balance
between his aspirations and reality.
e. “Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing.”
These words are said by Lucius Annaeus Seneca.
They tell us that life is not counted on the number of years a person has sustained but the way he
has [Link] focuses on the quality and not the [Link] is basically about what
contributions a person has done in his entire life.

promote amongst the youth today.

1. Read the speech, “We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions
as true” by Swami Vivekananda and write the gist of it below.
The speech by Swami Vivekananda manifests the importance of secularism in this world
and the value of all religions . It tells why universal tolerance is required on earth as the
evil feelings like hatred ,fanaticism, and bigotry have possessed this beautiful world.
It also tells that India is a nation that has given acceptance to each and every religion and as
a result gave the world a message to establish peace and order.
2. Explain the impact of the speech on you.
 The speech shows the importance of religions in maintaining world peace and [Link]
integrity of the world is not divided by grouping people in the name of religion but by
the evils that have penetrated in our society.

2. Jot down your argumentative points for a debate on the topic “Today’s youth are more
socially responsible”.
Today’s youth are the invaluable resource for our [Link] contribution towards the
nation is the most crucial aspect for our development without which our country may come

Youth can bring innovation and new ideas to the fore .They are the ones who can argue

​In Mumbai, over 500 mumbaikars picked up the plastic litter at Versova Beach
with a club of young college students who come every weekend to clean up various
beaches in [Link] was a successful drive conducted with BMC. Thousands
of children from 66 schools in the city picked up plastic bottles, shampoo
sachets,chips packets and plastic bags. This is also known as Plogathon .This is a
great initiative taken and I always want to bea part of cleaning drives like these
 because cleaning your surroundings heals the Mother [Link] beaches are the
bridge between our world and ocean. It is necessary to keep our beaches clean if we
hope to ​ ​keep our oceans clean.​.​I have been a part of plogathon which was conducted
in my city and will participate further also.

This song is an inspiring song .It is telling people they can do the impossible if
they put in the hard work anda believe in themselves, what they are capable of,
and their dreams. You won't know ifu don't try so fight for the right things.
 Fight for the people,your pride,your country,and your name. It's not easy but
you are capable of breaking rocks,moving obstacles, and beating war. Meaning
that it is not going to be easy to get where your going. their going to be so
many obstacles that will seem [Link] and maybe even impossible to
defeat but you will do it and win it because that's who you are.
