Level 9 Harmony
The study of music theory provides the opportunity for students to explore elements already
discovered through their practical musical experience, and to establish the foundation for
musical experiences to come. It also builds aural awareness, develops analytical thinking, and
encourages creativity. Through the study of harmony, counterpoint, and analysis, students
build on the basic vocabulary and skills acquired at earlier stages of theory study. They gain a
deeper understanding of the musical language, which allows them to engage more fully with
the music they hear and play.

This book contains three official examinations based on the requirements outlined in the
Theory Syllabus, 2016 Edition. These papers are an invaluable resource for students preparing
for the Level 9 Harmony examination. They serve as samples of how the requirements in the
Theory Syllabus, 2016 Edition will be tested in upcoming examination sessions. Completion of
these papers will help students sharpen their skills and gain confidence in the application of
their knowledge, while supporting the development of well-rounded musicianship.
