Task A: What is an insect?


1. Sort the animals into groups according to whether they
are or are not insects.
You might need to carry out some research to find out the
characteristics of the animals.

2. Use modelling clay, salt dough or plasticine to create a model


of an insect on paper or a whiteboard.

Make sure your animal has all of the characteristics of insects.

Add labels around your insect naming the different parts.

Task B: Finding Insects


Go on an insect hunt in your local area.

Equipment like hand lenses, magnifiers and pooters will help you
get a closer look at the insects.

For each insect you find, draw a simple labelled diagram.

Write its name if you know what it’s called.

Remember to care for all living things.
